About the Role:
The Test Pilot will play a critical role in the flight test program, contributing expertise to the testing and certification of Joby's revolutionary aircraft. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of flight test principles, with an emphasis on experimental CTOL/VTOL and fly-by-wire systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute flight test activities, including remote UAV and inhabited flight tests.
- Conduct simulator testing for development, failure analysis, and other purposes.
- Participate in flight readiness reviews, test safety reviews, and other administrative tasks related to flight testing.
- Prepare test cards, provide test direction, and fulfill other control room responsibilities.
- Complete meticulous documentation adhering to company and FAA regulations.
- Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to all safety procedures.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Essential Qualifications:
- Graduation from a recognized test pilot school or equivalent extensive on-the-job training.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-training flight test experience, including at least 50 hours in experimental or certification flight tests as Test Pilot.
- Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience and training.
- Fixed Wing and/or Rotorcraft Commercial Certificate.
- Minimum of 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command flight time.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
- Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
Desired Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in both fixed-wing and rotary-wing flight testing, with primary focus on fixed-wing aircraft.
- Experience with AV-8, F-35B, or V-22 aircraft is highly desirable.
- FAA certification flight test experience.
- Flight instruction experience.
- Experience as an instructor at a test pilot school.
- Familiarity with all-electric aircraft.
- Designation as a Flight Test DER or AR.
Compensation and Benefits:
Joby Aviation offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary ranging from $155,700 to $289,600 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
