Test Pilot - Flight Test

Merlin Labs, an early-stage autonomy company headquartered in Boston with hubs in Denver, Los Angeles, and the Mojave Desert, is seeking a skilled and passionate Test Pilot to join its Flight Operations team. Our mission is to develop hardware and software solutions that enable aircraft to fly autonomously and safely, with our first product being a certified system for existing fixed-wing aircraft.

About the Role:

This role provides a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of aerospace technology. The successful candidate will lead capability testing on our test aircraft, working closely with the engineering team to support the development of our autonomy systems. This will involve:

• Leading and executing early and frequent flight tests to validate system performance.
• Developing and implementing robust flight test processes, ensuring optimal preparation, execution, and analysis.
• Collaborating with hardware, software, flight controls, integration, and flight operations teams to develop test plans, ensure readiness for test, and drive efficient and effective data collection.
• Executing flight tests onsite, including:
  • Assisting in building and approving test cards.
  • Verifying procedures and software through simulation.
  • Serving as test pilot during flight test activities.
  • Supporting the generation of comprehensive flight test reports, including analysis and deficiency reports.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of direct experience with experimental flight tests or a combination of equivalent formal training and experience.
• A strong understanding of basic fixed-wing aircraft flight dynamics and control.
• A genuine enthusiasm for contributing to the success of our flight test program, including the willingness to fly small airplanes, work onsite in Mojave, CA during critical testing periods, and continuously learn new skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong organizational abilities.

Non-local candidates are encouraged to apply. Travel and expenses will be covered for flight test activities in Mojave, CA.
