Key Responsibilities
- Take command as Pilot in Command for experimental aircraft, executing complex and moderately risky flight tests.
- Lead flight test projects, demonstrating proficiency in managing resources and adhering to strict timelines.
- Develop comprehensive ground and flight test plans, including those for novel and untested systems.
- Serve as a passionate advocate for the end user, meticulously defining operational characteristics and ensuring system functionality aligns with real-world needs.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams, maintaining intricate test aircraft configurations and troubleshooting advanced avionics system installations.
- Analyze flight test data to drive system development, validate compliance with stringent regulatory requirements, and provide critical certification documentation.
- Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills by identifying and addressing issues with test aircraft and installations, both in the air and on the ground.
- Leverage deep understanding of aircraft certification processes and regulations to author comprehensive certification plans and contribute to the development of flight manuals.
- Partner with safety analysis teams, effectively communicating potential hazards and failure effects to ensure the highest safety standards.
- Act as a technical resource for certification authorities, skillfully resolving any emerging issues.
- Lead by example, mentoring less experienced flight test pilots and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within the flight test organization.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, showcasing a strong academic background (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred).
- Commercial Pilot Certificate, demonstrating a commitment to professional aviation standards.
- 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate, ensuring fitness for demanding flight test operations.
- Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours, reflecting substantial experience and proficiency.
- Minimum of 200 flight test hours, indicating specialized expertise in this critical field.
- Proven experience in flight testing, demonstrating an understanding of test procedures, data analysis, and safety protocols.
- Expertise in using advanced engineering and flight test tools, including the ability to troubleshoot complex avionics systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of aircraft certification processes and associated regulations.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, essential for effective collaboration within a dynamic team environment.
Desired:
- Outstanding academic achievements, reflected in a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Previous experience in systems engineering or software development, providing valuable cross-functional insight.
- Flight Test Pilot DER or ODA Unit Member Qualification, demonstrating advanced certification expertise.
