Flight Test Pilot - Merlin Labs
Merlin Labs, an early-stage autonomy company focused on revolutionizing transportation systems, seeks a highly skilled and motivated Flight Test Pilot to join our growing team in Bedford, MA. We are building software to control sophisticated transportation systems, with our first product being a certified system to bring automation to existing fixed wing aircraft.
About the Role:
The Flight Test Pilot will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of our flight test program. This individual will lead capability testing on our test aircraft, collaborating with our engineering team to support the development of our autonomy systems. Responsibilities include:
- Leading Flight Testing: Developing and driving the application of processes for preparing, executing, and analyzing flight tests.
- Collaboration & Planning: Collaborating with hardware, software, flight controls, integration, and flight operations teams to develop test plans, ensure readiness, and drive efficient data collection.
- Flight Test Execution: Executing flight tests onsite, assisting in building and approving test cards, verifying procedures and software through simulation, serving as the test pilot, and supporting the generation of analysis and deficiency reports through robust flight test reports.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of experimental flight testing, along with a passion for pushing the boundaries of aerospace technology. The successful candidate will have:
- Experience: 5+ years of direct experience with experimental flight tests, or a combination of equivalent formal training and experience.
- Technical Expertise: Knowledge of basic concepts of fixed wing aircraft flight dynamics and control.
- Commitment & Adaptability: Enthusiastic willingness to go above and beyond to ensure the success of the flight test program, including flying small airplanes, spending time in Mojave, CA during critical testing periods, and learning new skills as needed.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
