Flight Test Pilot 2 - Olathe, Kansas
Garmin International seeks a highly motivated and experienced Flight Test Pilot 2 to join our team in Olathe, Kansas. This full-time position involves conducting flight tests of varying complexity, contributing to system design, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as Pilot in Command for experimental aircraft with minor modifications to certified design.
- Execute simple and moderately complex flight tests, including developing and executing ground and flight test plans.
- Operate data collection systems, post-process flight data, and analyze test results.
- Contribute to system design by leveraging an in-depth understanding of operational characteristics of the system under development/test.
- Maintain basic test aircraft configurations and coordinate with engineering teams.
- Address issues with test aircraft and installations, including basic troubleshooting and coordination with aircraft maintenance.
- Contribute to flight manuals and technical publications intended for use by pilots.
- Identify and verify the resolution of issues discovered during flight test.
- Apply a basic understanding of certification processes and associated regulations in the review of certification plans for basic certification projects.
- Propose improvements to flight test processes and safety protocols.
- Employ effective problem-solving techniques and a sense of urgency to address technical challenges.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Engineering, and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Commercial Pilot Certificate.
- 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate.
- Minimum 1,000 hours of total flight time.
- Demonstrated understanding of certification processes and associated regulations.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to perform moderately complex troubleshooting and debugging.
Preferred:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Prior experience using general aviation products.
- Understanding of system safety analysis.
- Previous experience in systems engineering or software development.
- Helicopter pilot qualifications.
