Pilot

Overview

The Pilot plays a critical role in supporting the aircraft Captain to ensure the safe and timely operation of aircraft. This position involves performing essential piloting duties and other aircraft management responsibilities.

Essential Duties

A successful Pilot must be capable of performing the following duties satisfactorily:

  • Provides the Captain with comprehensive flight planning, utilizing all relevant weather information and reports in strict accordance with Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
  • Determines the airworthiness of the aircraft according to FARs and Company policies and procedures, completing all necessary preflight inspections.
  • Collaborates with the Captain to ensure flights are planned and fueled appropriately for safe conduct and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Operates the aircraft safely, properly, and effectively during assigned duty periods, following the Captain's instructions, FARs, and Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains expert working knowledge of operated equipment, governing FARs, and relevant manuals, policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Communicates important operational information, such as turbulent weather conditions, to the crew and passengers.
  • Completes the load manifest accurately for each flight.
  • Contributes to a reliable and on-time operation by assisting the Captain in meeting all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
  • Assists with and ensures the proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo while at the terminal.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance in line with Company procedures and practices.
  • Presents a professional appearance, adhering to the Company uniform dress code.
  • Conducts oneself professionally at all times while on duty, observing the Rules of Conduct outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and other policies.
  • Engages in continuous professional training aimed at enhancing performance and abilities.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
  • ATP written exam passed is preferred.
  • Must meet the current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements established by the FAA and the Company.

Candidates meeting interview minimums but not hiring minimums may be eligible for hire upon successful completion of the interview process if they meet the Hiring Minimums within six months of the interview date, have no certificate action since the interview date, have no misdemeanors or felonies since the interview date, and accept a class date within six months of the interview date.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Prior customer service experience, ideally within an aviation setting.

Language Skills

Ability to proficiently read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, often under pressure or during emergency situations. Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to inquiries from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the public. Must be able to speak and be clearly understood in English, including delivering shouted verbal commands during emergencies.

Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability

Possesses the ability to solve practical problems and manage diverse variables in situations with limited standardization. Capable of interpreting various and multiple instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format. Must remain calm, think clearly, and react quickly in all types of emergency situations, including medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.

Decision Making & Impact of Errors

Makes decisions that align with strategic direction. Decisions are typically medium-range and of moderate significance with moderate consequences, though in unusual situations they may be significant and impact safety-of-flight. Decisions should be sound to avoid additional resource expenditure and maintain safety standards. Able to process information rapidly and respond positively during unexpected or serious situations. Capable of managing personal and emotional responses and acting appropriately under high stress levels.

Physical Demands

The Pilot must meet the following physical demands:

  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods without standing.
  • Capable of lifting or moving items up to 75 pounds at various heights.
  • Ability to meet the visual demands specified in FAA medical standards.
  • Ability to clearly hear verbal communications in person, via telephone, and over a headset amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
  • Possesses the stamina required to work long and sequential days, often with frequent changes in temperature, climate, and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to move about the aircraft and perform all required functions freely, effectively, and quickly within a confined environment.
  • Must be able to sit comfortably in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without modifications.

Work Environment

The Pilot will work in the following environmental conditions:

  • Requires working near moving mechanical parts.
  • Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions within an open-air hangar and on the flight line for extended periods.
  • May involve loud noise levels, requiring headset use.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, as well as varied schedules including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.

Travel Requirements

This position requires up to 100% travel, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays. The Pilot must be able to work extended hours with limited control over scheduling and be available to report to work with little notice. Willingness to relocate based on the Company's operational needs is required.
