First Officer
The First Officer supports the Captain by ensuring the safe and timely piloting of aircraft and by performing additional aircraft management duties. This role requires adherence to all company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assists the Captain in comprehensive flight planning, utilizing all pertinent weather information and reports, in accordance with Company policies and FARs.
- Determines aircraft airworthiness by adhering to FARs and company policies, completing thorough preflight inspections.
- Collaborates with the Captain to ensure accurate flight planning and fueling to facilitate safe operations according to regulations and guidelines.
- Operates the aircraft safely and effectively during assigned duty periods, adhering to the Captain's instructions, FARs, and company protocols.
- Maintains a complete and current understanding of all operational equipment, FARs, manuals, policies, procedures, and other relevant instructions.
- Informs crew and passengers of any conditions affecting the flight, such as turbulence or operational factors.
- Completes the load manifest for each flight.
- Assists the Captain to ensure on-time operations by adhering to all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
- Aids in the proper handling of the aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo while at the terminal.
- Maintains consistent and reliable attendance as per company policies and practices.
- Presents a professional appearance at all times, adhering to the company's uniform standards.
- Conducts oneself professionally while on duty and observes all Rules of Conduct as outlined in relevant manuals and policies.
- Pursues ongoing professional training to enhance performance and capabilities.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must meet minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written exam completion preferred.
- Must satisfy current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hour requirements set by the FAA and Company.
- Candidates meeting interview minimums, but not hiring minimums, may be eligible for hire if the hiring minimums are met within six months of the interview date, with no certificate action or criminal record since the interview date, and acceptance of class date within six months of the interview date.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior customer service experience, particularly within an aviation setting.
Language Skills:
Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations, particularly under stressful or emergency conditions.
Ability to clearly present information and answer questions from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the public.
Proficiency in spoken English, including ability to give clear and audible verbal commands in emergency situations.
Reasoning and Problem-Solving:
Capable of solving practical issues and managing various variables in situations with limited standardization.
Ability to interpret diverse instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
Demonstrated ability to remain composed, think clearly, and react swiftly in all types of emergency situations.
Decision Making & Impact of Errors:
Demonstrates the ability to make decisions that support strategic direction. Decisions tend to be medium-range with moderate consequences, but can also involve significant safety-of-flight consequences in unusual circumstances.
Able to process information quickly and react appropriately during unexpected and serious situations.
Demonstrates the ability to maintain composure and respond appropriately under high-stress conditions.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and crawl.
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting or moving items of up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to meet the vision standards required by the FAA.
- Ability to hear verbal communication clearly in person, on the phone, and via headset amidst ambient noise.
- Possesses the physical stamina to work long hours across sequential days, in variable temperature, climate, and weather conditions.
- Ability to freely, effectively, and quickly move about the aircraft and perform required functions within a confined environment.
- Ability to sit in pilot's seat or jump seat with all safety harnesses fastened without modification.
Work Environment:
- This position may require working in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions within an open-air hangar or flight line for extended periods.
- The noise level may be loud, requiring the use of a headset.
- Willingness and availability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, and maintain a varied schedule including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements:
Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
Must be available to work extended hours and with limited notice.
Willing to relocate based on the Company's operational requirements.
