The Special Air Missions (SAM) Group plays a pivotal role in developing and delivering Metrea’s Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Special Mobility, and Aerial Firefighting (AFF) capabilities. Position Summary
Metrea is seeking an experienced and highly skilled King Air Lead Captain to head critical flight operations. This pivotal role involves commanding King Air 200/300 aircraft for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, while also leading and mentoring a team of pilots. The Lead Captain will ensure the highest standards of safety, operational effectiveness, and regulatory compliance in challenging and diverse environments, making a direct contribution to national security objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) of King Air 200/300 aircraft, adhering strictly to EASA/CAA regulations and comprehensive company/customer directives.
- Leads a dedicated team of pilots, ensuring the safe and highly effective execution of flight operations.
- Actively assists the flight operations team in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and diligently maintains regulatory compliance across all activities.
- Meticulously coordinates all flights with Fixed Base Operators (FBOs), military and civilian Air Traffic Control (ATC) facilities, Company Site Leads, and Mission Coordination Services.
- Executes Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) flights under diverse conditions, including day, night, and all-weather scenarios, strictly within established safety parameters.
- Operates proficiently from remote, austere locations, with the capability to utilize unimproved runways.
- Completes all safety of flight documentation in precise accordance with applicable industry and EASA/CAA standards.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Possession of a minimum of 1000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
- A total flight time exceeding 3000 hours.
- At least 500 hours of PIC time acquired in multi-engine aircraft.
- A minimum of 500 hours operating within a multi-crew environment.
- Demonstrated previous experience in a senior or management aviation position.
Required Licences and Certifications
- Valid UK CAA or EASA Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) with multi-engine and instrument ratings. A dual license is highly preferred.
- A valid Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) Certificate.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid UK Class 1 Medical Certificate.
- A valid UK or EU passport.
- Willingness to consent to comprehensive pilot record and background checks, fully compliant with UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and company regulations.

This full-time position demands adaptability, with working hours and shift patterns varying based on operational requirements to ensure mission effectiveness and customer satisfaction. During deployments, the Lead Captain will operate under field conditions, demonstrating strong independence and resilience in potentially austere or arduous environments, with specific work environments varying by contract.
