We are looking for an experienced
Director of SMS / Global 7500 Captain
to join our flight operations department!
Reporting to the Director of Flight Operations, you are responsible for the operation and safety of the aircraft and the safety of all persons on board during flight time. For this purpose, you will act as Pilot in Command and will have final authority for the disposition of the aircraft during the time in which you are in command.
You are responsible to the Accountable Executive for items related to the SMS, and directly responsible to the Director of Flight Operations for managing and maintaining the SMS. You will manage the Safety Management System (SMS) to industry regulations, standards and recommended practices.
What You Will Do:
Communicate with, motivate and develop flight crew personnel, ensuring consistent high performance with respect to service to our passengers, operational integrity, continuous improvement, and safety.
Develop and ensure that all standard operating procedures are appropriate and ensure they reflect industry best practice and are compliant with regulations.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date training and licensing records, including Passports, Medicals and Licence Document booklets.
Implement and manage the Flight Data Monitoring program.
Manage the Safety Management System (SMS) to CARs 107, 302.502, 302.503, 302.505, 604.203(1), 604.207.
Establish and maintain a reporting system which provides and expedites a free flow of flight safety information.
Implement and manage the safety oversight program, emergency response procedures, record-keeping procedures and all aspects of the SMS program documentation.
Communicate to the Company and any person with whom the Company exchanges services, findings produced by the SMS in respect of a hazard to aviation safety and take appropriate action to mitigate the hazard.
Identifying, monitoring and risk profiling of hazards including the maintenance of the Hazard Risk Registry.
Measure Safety Performance using Safety Performance Indicators which shall be continually monitored.
In consultation with flight department managers, disseminate information to personnel relating to an incident, hazard analysis and results of reviews or audits.
Hold safety meetings with all flight department personnel at least twice per year to review SMS and include information pertaining to the effectiveness of the SMS and the attainment of the safety performance goals.
Sponsor P10 SOPs and checklists as appropriate, ensuring the these reflect best industry practice.
Ensure the safety and security of the aircraft and all persons on board.
Ensure that the aircraft is operated within its limitations and all operational procedures and checklists are complied with in accordance with the Flight Operations Manual, the Aircraft Flight Manual and applicable regulations.
Ensure that all mandatory pre-flight inspections have been carried out, and the aircraft’s performance will enable it to safely complete the proposed flight.
Ensure that the crew positions are occupied by qualified crew members in accordance with the Flight Manual and this Flight Operations Manual.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation, including:
- Post flight duties, including reports, governmental regulatory documents, journey logs and flight plan.
- Preparing and submitting reports in accordance with Safety Management System (SMS).
Ensuring compliance with customs, immigration and cabotage laws.
Maintain a high personal standard of discipline, conduct and appearance as a representative of the company and, by active example, developing and maintaining a high standard of professional expertise and morale amongst the crew.
What You'll Have:
Experience in corporate aviation and managing a corporate flight department’s SMS program
Minimum 8,000 hours Total Time with 4,000 as PIC, and 4,000 hours turbo-fan / jet
Extensive international experience and previous ultra-long range experience
Hold a valid TC Airline Transport Pilots License, Instrument rating (ATPL) and Class 1 TC Aviation Medical
Technical/logistical degree or equivalent experience. A strong operational background, significant technical knowledge, and operations experience in the aviation industry
Experience working with flight planning and flight scheduling software
Working knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations
Valid Canadian Passport and the ability to travel internationally
Must pass all required security requirements, including a background check and Airport Security Clearance (RAIC)
Computer proficiency including document formatting
An interest in undertaking additional roles and growing with the company
Global 7500 Type Rating preferred.
Working Conditions
Ability to travel as needed for domestic and international flights\Flexible to work a varying work schedule and on call basis as required (shifts of 12 hours or more, evening and weekend work)
