Chief Flight Instructor
The Department of Professional Aviation at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana, invites applications for a full-time (12-month) Chief Flight Instructor position within the College of Liberal Arts. The anticipated start date for this position is 30 October 2023 or sooner.
Responsibilities:
The Chief Flight Instructor will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to:
- Teaching undergraduate aviation classroom courses
- Conducting flight instruction within the flight education program
- Advising students
- Assisting in the planning, development, and revision of flight and ground school course curricula
- Engaging in research and professional service activities as directed by the Department Chair and within University guidelines.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- Current Certified Flight Instructor - Airplane (CFI-A) and Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFI-I) certificates
- Current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate
- No history of FAA certificate enforcement actions
- Meets all requirements outlined in 14 CFR Part 141.35, including:
- A minimum of 2,000 hours as pilot in command
- At least three years and 1,000 flight hours of flight training experience as a certificated flight instructor or instructor in a military pilot flight training program; or 1,500 flight hours of such experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to dynamic environments
- Strong multi-tasking abilities, coupled with proficiency in information gathering, data analysis, problem identification, priority setting, and timely decision making
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, for on and off-campus events
Preferred:
- Master's degree in an aviation-related field
- Current Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI), Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI), and/or Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) certificates
- Prior experience as a 14 CFR Part 141 flight instructor
- Experience with collegiate aviation accreditation processes through the Aviation Accreditation Board International
