Position Summary
Reporting to the Lead Captain regarding company operating policies and procedures, the Pilot in Command assumes responsibility for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments, with a primary emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Pilot in Command exercises authority over all assigned flights and serves as the final authority for their safe execution.
Key Responsibilities
The Pilot in Command is responsible for a range of critical duties, including:
- Operating the aircraft safely, determining departure times and routes, and making decisions regarding flight cancellations based on weather or other relevant conditions.
- Ensuring complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures for every flight.
- Implementing necessary changes dictated by en route conditions to ensure the flight continues in accordance with appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conducting flights in a safe and prudent manner, adhering to both industry and company standards.
- Accurately completing all trip paperwork according to current procedures.
- Ensuring a thorough and complete understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of the flight.
- Recording all aircraft discrepancies on the discrepancy log as they occur and promptly reporting them to the Director of Maintenance or designee. Determining if an inoperative item can be deferred or requires repair based on the approved MEL and guidance from the Director of Maintenance, and completing the aircraft discrepancy log accordingly.
- Verifying that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Maintaining a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including all emergency systems and procedures associated with the aircraft.
- Securing the aircraft after each flight, which may include arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
- Obtaining the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from an FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
- Filing a flight plan with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyzing area, enroute, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and alternates.
- Performing the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provisions of the Twelve Five Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program, as applicable.
- Conducting required passenger safety briefings or assigning this duty to the Second in Command.
- Imparting knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them for assuming the duties of Pilot in Command in an emergency or upon upgrading to Pilot in Command in that aircraft.
- Completing and sending the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Completing and sending the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
- Actively supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
- Immediately reporting any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Delegating duties when appropriate, understanding that the responsibility for those duties remains with the Pilot in Command.
- Performing other duties as required.
- Representing Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
Minimum Requirements
Qualified candidates should possess the following:
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
- 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command flight time.
- 1500 hours Turbojet flight time.
- 1500 hours Turbine time.
- 100 hours Night flight time.
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
- 5 years of aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively without any restrictions.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
The role requires the ability to meet certain physical demands and adapt to varying work environments. The employee must be able to use hands and fingers for handling, feeling, or reaching, and frequently stand, walk, or sit. Occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary. The role involves frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds above the head. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
The work environment involves working in both heavy maintenance areas and upscale customer spaces. Noise levels are typically moderate but can become high during aircraft arrivals/departures. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. Occasional fuel fumes may be present. The role requires willingness and ability to work in all types of weather conditions. Hangar environments may experience extreme heat and cold seasonally.
