Plane Captain
Job Summary
Amentum is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Plane Captain to perform comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. This vital role involves conducting daily and turn-around inspections, providing essential ground support, performing pre-operational checks, fueling ground support equipment, and offering critical technical assistance and guidance for aviation operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs the duties and responsibilities of the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turn-around aircraft inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes required maintenance forms.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing adhering to established procedures.
- Launches and recovers aircraft.
- Directs aircraft taxi operations during launch and recovery.
- Tows aircraft and acts as aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Secures and covers aircraft using established procedures.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment.
- Ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adheres to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Safeguards government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness of the work center.
- Executes other assigned position-related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in English, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.
- Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level, as well as push or pull weight up to 70 pounds.
- Close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Normal range hearing.
- Successful completion of a training program and written certification as a Plane Captain, with semi-annual re-qualification required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. (US Citizenship is required for a Secret Clearance).
- Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Qualification on all assigned T/M/S (Type/Model/Series) aircraft.
- Availability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, and F-16 aircraft is strongly preferred.

Licensing and certification requirements, including:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training.
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training.
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness.
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Licensing on support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Ability to handle hazardous materials as required by assigned duties.
- Demonstrated eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- May be required to use a respirator.
Compensation & Benefits
The position offers a competitive hourly rate of $50.66 , as set by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
