Flight Attendant - Japanese Language Qualified

Position Summary
The primary responsibility of Hawaiian Flight Attendants is to ensure the safety of all guests aboard Company aircraft. This includes maintaining a high level of physical and psychological preparedness to execute safety procedures and provide immediate assistance in emergency situations. Flight Attendants work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to manage emergency situations effectively, communicate clearly, and interact with guests of diverse personalities in a professional and courteous manner.
Beyond safety, Flight Attendants are entrusted with delivering a consistent and exceptional level of customer service within the aircraft cabin. This encompasses providing a seamless food and beverage service, all while embodying the spirit of aloha.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend pre-flight briefings encompassing weather, altitudes, routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight duration, food and beverage offerings, and guest counts.
- Greet guests warmly and direct them to their assigned seats, addressing flight-related inquiries with helpfulness and expertise.
- Assist guests with stowing carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or under cabin seats.
- Demonstrate the use of safety equipment, including seatbelts, oxygen masks, and life jackets, and review emergency procedures prior to takeoff.
- Patrol the aisles of the aircraft to ensure compliance with safety regulations, address safety infractions, and effectively manage and resolve challenging guest situations.
- Provide clear and concise guidance and assistance to guests during emergency procedures, such as evacuating the aircraft following an emergency landing.
- Deliver food and beverage service according to established procedures, maintaining consistency and high standards.
- Collect and reconcile payments for onboard products, including alcoholic beverages, meals, and duty-free sales.
- Administer first aid as needed.
- Prepare comprehensive written and verbal reports documenting emergency or safety incidents occurring during flight.
- Prepare guests and the aircraft for landing, adhering to established procedures.
- Successfully complete annual FAA-approved re-certification programs provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Obtain and maintain an AOA Badge.
- Maintain current knowledge and competency in emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian Airlines and FAA regulations.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, working alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Interact effectively and professionally with colleagues and guests.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to deliver an unwavering aloha experience by providing prompt and pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints.
- Identify potential issues or signs of trouble, recognizing problems proactively and escalating concerns as necessary.
- Work in various climates and locations across the globe, adapting to variable shifts.
- Fly at high altitudes.
- Meet the physical demands of the role.
- Assist ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members.
- Evacuate the aircraft in heavy, dense smoke during a cabin fire.
- Handle and operate oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Remove and lift emergency cabin windows (weighing up to 60 pounds).
- Jump down the emergency slide from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
All outlined job duties, including emergency procedures, are essential functions of the Flight Attendant position.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be 21 years old at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Present a professional image. Visible body art (including tattoos), facial piercings, multiple or upper ear piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style are not permitted while in the Flight Attendant Uniform or in public areas.
- Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and the ability to effectively de-escalate and resolve challenging customer situations.
- Proficiently read, write, and speak English.
- Must be able to proficiently speak advanced/business level Japanese and read Romaji or Kanji.
- Successfully complete an FAA-approved, unpaid eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Able to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
- Able to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to reach 82 inches vertically.
- Ability to sit in a cabin crew jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Ability to complete pre-employment requirements: Drug Test, tuberculosis (TB) and background check.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to secure applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Must possess the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Flight Attendants work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable positive and negative gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying levels of cabin pressurization. In addition, flight attendants are required to stand for up to four to seventeen hours, during which time stooping, twisting, and pulling and pushing cabin equipment may be necessary.
- Current Employees must be in good standing with the company.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, health care, and/or professional services.
- College education or degree.
