UAV Pilot and Instructor
General Atomics Systems Integration, LLC (GA-SI), a leader in military and commercial engineering services specializing in systems integration, reliability improvements, and controls system design, seeks a highly skilled UAV Pilot and Instructor for their Aero Services Team. This dynamic role blends instructional expertise with hands-on piloting within a flexible deployment capacity.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and participate in all facets of ground and flight operations, including meticulous mission planning, briefing, execution, debriefing, aircrew resource management, and unwavering adherence to safety protocols.
- Conduct remote piloting operations to rigorously evaluate aircraft performance against specifications and operational suitability. This will involve executing precisely defined test maneuvers and providing detailed analysis during engineering evaluations and flight test demonstrations.
- Conceptualize, plan, orchestrate, and execute complex flight programs and flight test events, demonstrating superior organizational and aeronautical judgment.
- Ensure unwavering compliance with all applicable service guidelines, company policies and procedures, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and safety.
- Spearhead the development and validation of procedures for new aircraft features, demonstrating adaptability and technical proficiency. This includes crafting comprehensive operational and safety procedures, as well as developing engaging and effective training syllabus courseware.
- Conduct impactful demonstrations and actively participate in operational and experimental ground and flight tests of assigned UAVs, showcasing the aircraft's capabilities to stakeholders. Represent the organization with esteemed senior military and commercial clients, embodying GA-SI's commitment to excellence.
- Provide expert instruction to UAV student pilots and instructor pilots-in-training, covering both ground and flight operations. Foster a learning environment characterized by clear communication, constructive feedback, and unwavering dedication to safety.
- Evaluate UAV pilots, ensuring adherence to standardized company procedures and best practices, contributing to the overall professionalism and efficiency of the flight operations team.
- Maintain an unwavering commitment to ethical conduct, adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, and company obligations.
- Prioritize safety, consistently working in accordance with established operating procedures and best practices.
- Remain adaptable and responsive, embracing additional duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
- A four-year technical degree or trade school equivalency, coupled with seven or more years of demonstrable experience in UAV operation or aviation. Equivalent professional or military experience in UAV or aviation will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
- In-depth and comprehensive understanding of UAV and FAA principles, theories, and concepts is essential.
- Possession of an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with a current instrument rating, along with the ability to maintain instrument currency. Alternatively, candidates may possess documented DOD specialized remotely piloted aircraft system training/qualification equivalent to USAF Form 8.
- Pilot-in-Command (PIC) qualification with UAV Pilot Evaluator certification is mandatory.
- A minimum of 500 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) is required, with preference given to candidates possessing UAV instructor experience or qualifications on multiple UAV aircraft platforms. A minimum of 1,200 UAV flight hours is also required.
- Experience as a Multiple Aircraft UAV Pilot Evaluator is highly desirable.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (CONUS and OCONUS deployments) is essential.
- Exceptional analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are crucial for effective interaction with all levels of employees, including senior management, as well as senior military and civilian customers, contractors, and aircrew members.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer operations and applications is necessary.
- The ability to excel both independently and as a team leader is paramount, along with the flexibility to accommodate extended work hours and travel demands.
This position requires US Citizenship and a Secret Clearance.
