Overview
Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), a division of HII, is seeking a qualified Foreman Craft Instructor to join The Apprentice School team. As the largest industrial employer in Virginia, NNS is the sole designer and builder of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and a leading provider of nuclear submarines. This position includes a $5,000 sign-on bonus for new hires.
Role Responsibilities
The Foreman Craft Instructor is responsible for the supervision, assignment, coordination, and evaluation of semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel. Key duties include:

Training employees to enhance quality, productivity, and skill development.

Developing and implementing training procedures and translating broad strategies into actionable plans.

Ensuring full compliance with all technical requirements, including adherence to drawings and established procedures.

Overseeing manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that significantly impact company financial performance.

Monitoring job performance and budget compliance across assigned shifts.

Managing the training and evaluation of 12-15 apprentices within a production environment.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience criteria:

Bachelor’s Degree; OR
-
Apprentice Certification; OR
-
High School Diploma and 4 years of combined experience in manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, or the military; OR
-
Associate Degree in a Trade/Technical field and 3 years of relevant manufacturing, shipbuilding, trade, or military experience.
Additional Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship is required for this position. This role is not eligible for telework or relocation assistance, and no travel is required. Security clearance is not required to start.
Preferred Qualifications

Completion of the Apprentice School X31 Electrician program.

Sound knowledge of the shipyard electrician trade.

Strong organizational skills, including proficiency in multitasking and scheduling.

Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and train personnel.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

Ability to manage all required documentation within the area of responsibility.

Capacity to work a variable schedule, including overtime.
