UAV Pilot and Instructor - Flex-Deployable Capacity
General Atomics Systems Integration, LLC (GA-SI), a leader in military and commercial engineering services known for its expertise in systems integration, reliability improvements, and controls system design, seeks a highly skilled UAV Pilot and Instructor for a unique opportunity within its Aero Services Team. This role offers a dynamic blend of instructional responsibilities and hands-on flight operations.
The Position:
The UAV Pilot and Instructor will operate with a significant degree of autonomy in overseeing ground and flight operations. This includes meticulous mission planning, execution, briefing, and debriefing, as well as ensuring optimal aircrew resource management and unwavering adherence to ground and flight safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) of assigned Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), demonstrating superior piloting skills and judgment.
- Serve as a qualified Instructor Pilot, delivering comprehensive academic instruction and in-flight training to UAV pilots.
- Contribute expertise as a company flight examiner and subject matter expert, upholding rigorous standards and ensuring knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams in the ongoing development of the Predator aircraft, providing invaluable operational insights.
- Serve as a primary technical point of contact on contracts and projects, liaising with senior military and commercial customers.
- Remotely pilot UAVs to validate compliance with specifications and operational suitability during engineering tests and flight test/demonstration support, executing specifically prescribed tests and maneuvers.
- Define, plan, organize, and execute complex flight programs and flight test events, ensuring seamless and efficient operations.
- Develop and verify procedures for the implementation of new aircraft features, ensuring safe and effective integration.
- Develop comprehensive operational and safety procedures, as well as training syllabus courseware, contributing to a culture of safety and excellence.
- Conduct compelling demonstrations and participate in crucial operational and experimental ground and flight tests of assigned UAVs.
- Evaluate UAV pilots to guarantee adherence to standardized company procedures and practices, maintaining a high level of operational consistency.
- Maintain unwavering compliance with service guidance, company policy, procedures, and all applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
Qualifications:
- A four-year technical degree or equivalent trade school certification, coupled with seven or more years of demonstrated experience in UAV operation or aviation. Equivalent professional or military experience in UAV or aviation may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
- Comprehensive understanding of UAV and FAA principles, theories, and concepts, demonstrating a deep understanding of the regulatory and operational landscape.
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with a current instrument rating and the ability to maintain instrument currency or equivalent documented DOD specialized remotely piloted aircraft system training/qualification (USAF Form 8 or equivalent).
- Pilot-in-Command (PIC) qualification with UAV Pilot Evaluator certification, showcasing advanced piloting skills and instructional proficiency.
- Minimum 500 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) with UAV instructor or multiple UAV aircraft qualification preferred.
- Minimum 1,200 UAV flight hours, demonstrating significant practical experience.
- Multiple aircraft UAV Pilot Evaluator qualification, highlighting versatility and expertise across platforms.
- Ability to travel on CONUS and OCONUS deployments, exhibiting flexibility and adaptability to support operational needs.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with all levels of employees, senior management, military and civilian customers, contractors, and aircrew.
- Proficiency in computer operations and applications, demonstrating the ability to leverage technology for enhanced operational efficiency.
- Ability to work both independently and as a proactive leader within a team environment, while demonstrating flexibility to work extended hours and travel as required.
This position offers a competitive salary range of $126,510 - $194,925 and requires 50-75% travel. U.S. Citizenship and a Secret Clearance are required.
