Position Summary

FlightSafety International is seeking a highly competent and dedicated Simulator Second-In-Command (SIC) to join its world-class aviation training team. The Simulator SIC holds a critical responsibility for maintaining currency in assigned programs, enabling them to proficiently act as "Second-In-Command" for both internal and external customer pilots. This role primarily supports Recurrent, Initial, or generic training courses for multi-crew aircraft within the established training curriculum. The Simulator SIC serves as a competent flying partner for clients attending training without their own crew, specifically without performing instructional duties, thereby enhancing the realism and effectiveness of the training experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as the Second-In-Command (SIC) for clients undertaking multi-crew aircraft training who attend without an assigned flying partner, providing professional and competent support.
  • Maintains current SIC pilot qualification in strict adherence to the requirements of all programs to which the incumbent is assigned.
  • Ensures that SIC qualification is consistently upheld in accordance with FlightSafety International’s comprehensive Quality Management Systems (QMS) processes and procedures.
  • Keeps all required certificates, ratings, and designations current and valid for the effective performance of SIC duties.
  • Serves as SIC in various types of aircraft to facilitate training for FAA Part 142, Part 135, and non-FAA regulated clients as operational needs dictate.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (G.E.D.) demonstrating satisfactory performance in the General Educational Development Testing Program.
  • Two to three (2-3) years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience & Certifications

  • Prior to commencing SIC duties, the applicant must possess the following certificates and experience:
    • A Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate category, class, and instrument ratings.
    • A minimum of 450 hours total flight time.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated fluency in English, encompassing strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak, understand, read, and write proficiently.
  • Exceptional cockpit verbal communication skills, vital for effective crew coordination and safety.
  • Proven ability to interact with diverse customers in a highly professional, respectful, and service-oriented manner.
  • Capacity to adapt seamlessly to dynamic scheduling changes and perform effectively in high-pressure training situations.
  • Proficiency in a second language may be required at certain FlightSafety Learning Centers to meet specific operational and client needs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this role, the incumbent will regularly engage in activities requiring the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally or audibly. The position may also require standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and sensing (taste or smell). Specific physical capabilities required include:

  • Ability to reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
  • Ability to reach and manipulate numerous controls within the simulator device.
  • Capability to safely enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
  • Ability to exit from a malfunctioned simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.

This role demands specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be capable of regularly lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds, and frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.

The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally, the employee may be required to work in high, precarious places or in outside weather conditions, and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration. The typical noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
