Position Summary

FlightSafety International is seeking a highly qualified and professional Simulator Second-in-Command (SIC) to support its comprehensive aviation training programs. The SIC plays a crucial role in maintaining operational currency within assigned programs, primarily serving as a competent Second-in-Command for both internal and external customer pilots undergoing Recurrent, Initial, or generic training courses within established curricula. This role is non-instructional and focuses purely on flight deck crew support.

Key Responsibilities

The Simulator Second-in-Command will:

  • Serve as a proficient Second-in-Command (SIC) for clients undergoing multi-crew aircraft training who attend without a flying partner. This includes providing essential flight deck support without performing instructional duties.
  • Maintain stringent SIC pilot qualification standards in accordance with the specific requirements of assigned training programs.
  • Ensure continuous SIC qualification adherence to FlightSafety International’s robust Quality Management Systems (QMS) processes and procedures.
  • Proactively maintain all necessary certificates, ratings, and designations required for the effective execution of SIC duties.
  • Operate as SIC across various aircraft types, facilitating training for clients under Part 142, Part 135, and non-FAA regulations as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • A High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (G.E.D.), coupled with two to three (2-3) years of directly related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Candidates must possess a valid Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate category, class, and instrument ratings.
  • A minimum of 450 flight hours is required.
  • Preferred: Candidates located within the Tucson, Arizona area are highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional fluency in English, encompassing strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to speak, understand, read, and write proficiently.
  • Demonstrated excellent cockpit verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to interact professionally and effectively with a diverse range of customers.
  • Strong adaptability to dynamic schedules and high-pressure operational environments.
  • Proficiency in a second language may be advantageous or required in certain Learning Centers to meet specific client needs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role requires regular use of hands for detailed tasks, reaching, and effective verbal communication. The employee may also be required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and potentially taste or smell. Essential physical capabilities include:

  • Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder or anti-torque controls with both feet.
  • Reaching and manipulating numerous controls within the simulator device.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit the simulator device via provided ramps.
  • Capability to exit a malfunctioned simulator, even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.

Specific vision abilities are crucial, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure may include high, precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, risk of electrical shock, radiation, and vibration. The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate.
