Position Summary
The Simulator Second in Command plays a critical role in supporting FlightSafety International's high-quality aviation training programs. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining current qualifications in assigned rotorcraft programs to effectively serve as the "Second-In-Command" for both internal and external Customer Pilots participating in Recurrent, Initial, or generic multi-crew training courses within the established curriculum. The incumbent acts strictly as a competent SIC and does not perform instructional duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Acts as Second-in-Command (SIC) for clients undertaking multi-crew aircraft training who do not have a flying partner.
- Serves competently in the SIC capacity during simulator training sessions.
- Maintains SIC pilot qualification in accordance with the requirements of all assigned rotorcraft programs.
- Ensures SIC qualification is maintained in full compliance with FlightSafety International’s Quality Management Systems (QMS) processes and procedures.
- Keeps all required certificates, ratings, and designations current to perform duties as an SIC.
- Acts as SIC in various rotorcraft types for clients under Part 142, Part 135, and non-FAA regulations as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (GED) combined with two to three (2-3) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Rotorcraft experience is required for this position.
- Possession of a Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate rotorcraft category, class, and instrument ratings is mandatory prior to commencing SIC duties.
- A minimum of 450 total flight hours.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated fluency in English, encompassing strong verbal and written communication skills (ability to speak, understand, read, and write).
- Excellent verbal communication skills essential for effective cockpit coordination.
- Ability to interact with a diverse range of Customers in a professional and courteous manner.
- Capacity to adapt effectively to changing schedules and perform under high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency in a second language may be required at certain Learning Center locations to meet specific operational needs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally or through hearing. The role may necessitate standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and tasting or smelling.
The position requires a specific physical range of body motion to:
- Reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Reach and manipulate numerous controls within the simulator device.
- Safely enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Safely exit a malfunctioned simulator device while it is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure may include working in high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
