Position Overview

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified candidates for the 2181 series to join our Flight Program Operations team. As a part 135 certificate holder with operations nationwide, we fulfill a critical role in maintaining the safety and integrity of the national airspace system. Our pilots contribute to diverse missions, including the inspection of navigational aids, commissioning of new aviation equipment, cutting-edge research and development, and transportation for critical event response missions.

Key Responsibilities

Pilots in this role are responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of national airspace operations. Duties include, but are not limited to, conducting routine inspections of ground-based navigational aids, flight-testing new procedures, supporting military and government logistics in various weather conditions, and performing research, development, and evaluation of advanced avionics technology.

Conditions of Employment

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Subject to designated or random drug testing.
  • May require successful completion of a security investigation.
  • May be subject to a one-year probationary period.
  • May be required to file a financial disclosure statement.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated based on the application package and FAA Form 3330-47-3 ASIP. Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements by the closing date:

  • Certificates: Must possess a valid Commercial Pilot Certificate with airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating. (Selected candidates without an ATP must complete the ATP written exam within 60 days of appointment).
  • Medical: Must possess a valid first or second-class medical certificate. (Selected candidates must obtain a first-class medical certificate prior to appointment).
  • Total Flight Time: 1,500 hours.
  • Pilot-in-Command Time: 250 hours.
  • Multiengine Airplane Time: 500 hours.
  • Night Flying Time: 75 hours.
  • Instrument Time: 75 hours (minimum of 10 hours must be actual instrument weather).
  • Recent Flight Experience: 100 hours within the last 12 months.

Note for FV-J (FG-14) Level: Applicants must possess an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) Credential.
