Position Overview: Functional Check Flight Pilot (LUH-72)

The Functional Check Flight (FCF) Pilot (LUH-72) is responsible for utilizing specialized flight test techniques to perform functional check flights. This role measures aircraft performance and handling characteristics to determine airworthiness following maintenance or modifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform FCFs and demonstrate aircraft proficiency following maintenance or modifications.
  • File flight plans using authorized navigational processes and interpret meteorological data as it pertains to mission requirements.
  • Compute and annotate weight and balance logs for aircraft.
  • Initiate and complete military flight and maintenance documentation to record FCF results and discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with military pilots and technicians to troubleshoot, advise, and verify maintenance compliance.
  • Evaluate aircraft airworthiness prior to release for flight in accordance with publications and procedures.
  • Perform recovery and ferry flights to designated sites, including depots.
  • Conduct aircraft run-ups for alert status to test modifications.
  • Serve as an Aircraft Technical Inspector (TI) as an additional duty, including inspecting power plant hot/cold sections and accessory modules.
  • Provide technical guidance on maintenance techniques, safety procedures, and operational readiness.
  • Maintain technical libraries and conduct system inspections before, during, and after maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance trend analysis and apply quality control management principles to operations.
  • Support safety officer functions, AS9100/AS9110 internal audits, and continual improvement initiatives as qualified.
  • Deploy as required to support contract and mission requirements.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1,000 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) time.
  • Proficiency in the operations of the LUH-72/EC145 aircraft.
  • Current, valid FAA Commercial Certificate with instrument rating.
  • Possession of a current, valid Army or FAA Second Class Medical Certificate.
  • Must meet the qualification requirements of AR 95-20 and maintain currency in accordance with AR 95-1.
  • Successful completion of an annual flight evaluation conducted in accordance with AR 95-1 and the applicable Aircrew Training Manual (ATM).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance (NAC-I T1 Public Trust).
  • Demonstrated fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

This role operates in varied environments, including potential exposure to extreme noise, fumes, airborne particles, electrical hazards, and moving mechanical parts. Candidates must be able to distinguish color, judge three-dimensional depth, and read precision gauges. Physical requirements include the ability to climb ladders to heights of 12 feet and lift up to 50 pounds to a height of four feet. Travel to austere environments with minimal infrastructure may be required on short notice.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position is $51.75 per hour, subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) provisions.
