Position Summary

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified candidates for the 2181 series to join the Flight Program Operations team. This role supports a mission-critical government organization responsible for the integrity of the national airspace system. Duties include inspecting ground-based navigational aids, commissioning new equipment, conducting research and development, performing flight tests with cutting-edge avionics, and supporting critical event response missions. This position offers the opportunity to work within a Part 135 certificate holder with multiple national locations.

Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Participation in designated or random drug testing.
  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Potential requirement to file a financial disclosure statement.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess the appropriate FAA pilot certificates and/or military ratings, meet flight hour requirements, and possess the necessary knowledge and skills. Eligibility is verified via FAA Form 3330-47-3.

Certificates and Ratings

  • Valid Commercial pilot certificate with airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating. (Candidates without an ATP must complete the written exam within 60 days of appointment).
  • Valid first or second-class medical certificate (First class required prior to appointment).
  • Selective Placement Factor: To qualify for the FV-J (FG-14) level, candidates must possess an ATP certificate and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) credential.

Flight Hour Requirements

  • Total Flight Time: 1,500 hours.
  • Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Time: 250 hours.
  • Night Flying Time: 75 hours.
  • Flying Time (Last 12 Months): 100 hours.
  • Multiengine Airplane Time: 500 hours.
  • Instrument Time: 75 hours (minimum of 10 hours in actual instrument weather).

Additional Information

This position is covered by the FAA Core Compensation plan. Roles may be filled at the FV-I or FV-J levels, with promotion potential from FV-I to FV-J subject to performance and qualification requirements.
