Job Title: FAA Flight Program Operations Pilot

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified professionals to join the Flight Program Operations team. This role supports a diverse range of critical missions, including the inspection of navigational aids, commissioning of new equipment, research and development of avionics technology, flight testing, and critical event response for government agencies. As a Part 135 certificate holder, the FAA operates across various national locations, ensuring the safety and integrity of the national airspace system.

Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be available for designated or random drug testing.
  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Financial disclosure filing may be required within 30 days of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess the appropriate FAA pilot certificates and demonstrate the following flight experience:

  • Certificates: Valid Commercial Pilot certificate with airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings, OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating.
  • Medical Requirement: Valid first or second-class medical certificate (First-class certificate required prior to appointment).
  • Total Flight Time: 1500 hours.
  • Pilot-in-Command Time: 250 hours.
  • Multi-engine Airplane Time: 500 hours.
  • Night Flying Time: 75 hours.
  • Instrument Time: 75 hours (at least 10 hours must be in actual instrument weather).
  • Recent Flight Experience: 100 hours in the last 12 months.

Note: Selected candidates without an ATP certificate must successfully complete the ATP written exam within 60 days of appointment. To qualify at the FV-J level, applicants must possess an ATP certificate and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) credential.

Applicants must provide FAA Form 3330-47-3 (ASIP) to verify flight hours. Candidates are evaluated based on their application package and documented work history. Per federal hiring guidelines, applicants should include specific examples in their work history that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position. Additional Information

This position is covered by the FAA Core Compensation plan. Promotion potential exists from the FV-I to the FV-J level, subject to qualification and training requirements. This is a non-bargaining unit position. The FAA provides a comprehensive federal benefits package, and permanent change of station (PCS) benefits may be available for eligible candidates.
