Position Summary

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified candidates for the 2181 series to join the Flight Program Operations team. This role supports a mission-critical government organization responsible for the safety and integrity of the national airspace system. Duties include inspecting navigational aids, commissioning aviation equipment, conducting research and development with advanced avionics, and performing transportation and critical event response missions. Successful candidates will join a Part 135 certificate holder with operational locations nationwide, including Arlington, VA; Kennesaw, GA; Atlantic City, NJ; Battle Creek, MI; Oklahoma City, OK; Fort Worth, TX; Sacramento, CA; and Anchorage, AK.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
  • Subject to designated or random drug testing as part of the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Financial disclosure may be required upon entry on duty.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must possess the appropriate FAA pilot certificates and demonstrate the following flight hour requirements, documented via FAA Form 3330-47-3:

  • Certificates and Ratings: Valid Commercial pilot certificate (airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings) OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate (multi-engine land).
  • Medical Certificate: Valid first or second-class medical certificate (First class required prior to appointment).
  • Total Flight Time: 1500 hours.
  • Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Time: 250 hours.
  • Night Flying Time: 75 hours.
  • Flight Time (Last 12 Months): 100 hours.
  • Multi-engine Airplane Time: 500 hours.
  • Instrument Time: 75 hours (minimum of 10 hours in actual instrument weather).

Selective Placement Factor: To qualify for the FV-J (FG-14) level, applicants must possess an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) Credential.
