Contracted Qualified Flight Instructor Pilot

CAE is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Contracted Qualified Flight Instructor (CQFI) to join its team of military-trained professionals. This individual will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) pilots. The CQFI will be responsible for delivering in-flight instruction on the CT156 Harvard aircraft, guiding RCAF students and instructors through a comprehensive training syllabus. This includes conducting pre- and post-mission briefings, evaluating student performance, and ensuring readiness to progress through the prescribed learning path established by the RCAF. The CQFI will become qualified to instruct students in various mission types, including Clearhood, Instrument, Navigation, Formation, and Composite missions, adhering to the relevant ITP. The role may also involve participation in Flying Instructor School activities, including staff development and QFI training, based on performance. The CQFI is expected to maintain RCAF currency and proficiency standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-flight instructional missions with RCAF students and instructors.
  • Deliver thorough pre- and post-mission briefings.
  • Evaluate student mission performance and progress.
  • Maintain proficiency, category, and currency in accordance with applicable orders.
  • Update FlightPro currencies and obligations as required.
  • Ensure assigned students progress according to the ITP.
  • Provide comprehensive briefings to students prior to each dual/solo mission.
  • Execute instructional sorties according to RCAF instructional doctrine.
  • Be proficient in executing all CT156 Phase II, III, and/or FIS syllabus missions.
  • Provide thorough debriefings following each dual mission.
  • Advise the Flight Commander of any student deficiencies.
  • Complete and release student progress cards in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Flight Commander in monitoring student progress.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations/briefings on instructional topics.
  • Follow CAF Flight Safety program and protocols.
  • Perform Test Pilot duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have previous experience as a qualified military pilot.
  • Successful completion of RCAF conversion and flight instructor training on the CT156.
  • Successful completion of initial and/or regular assessments as required by the RCAF, including PCs, FIC PCs, APC, IRT, rear seat proficiency checks, and QFI Category check-flights.
  • Minimum two-year operational tour as a military pilot with Aircraft Commander status, or
  • AIMB qualification and two years of flight instructor experience (or equivalent).
  • Non-native English speakers must demonstrate advanced proficiency on the TOEFL in reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
  • Military or professional flying experience within the last 10 years.
  • Maintain a Transport Canada Category 1 medical certificate.
  • Body weight and anthropometric measurements must be within the limits of the CT156.
  • Candidate must successfully pass a security evaluation per the requirements of the Controlled Goods Directorate of Canada and to CAE being able to obtain all necessary re-transfer authorization in compliance with US ITAR regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous CT156 NFTC QFI experience.
  • Possession of a Commercial Pilot's License (at a minimum).
  • Flight lead experience in a trainer or fighter aircraft.
  • Experience in military instruction.
  • Verbal French skills.
