British Airways Direct Entry Pilot - 787 First Officer

The Role:

The 787 First Officer is responsible for providing a world-class flight experience. The pilot's career path is never defined, and there are a huge variety of roles outside of flying. All British Airways pilots can bid for different fleets and Command positions during the annual bid process.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Currently flying the Boeing 787 within the last 12 months.
  • Holds a current UK-issued CAA Flight Crew Licence ATPL (A), or an EASA ATPL (A) license and meets the "Third Country CPL and ATPL license conversion requirements" set out by the UK CAA (route 3, 4, 5, or 6). Alternatively, hold a UK Part-FCL ATPL (or meet the criteria to upgrade to an ATPL during the type rating)
  • Possesses a Class 1 medical certificate.
  • Meets the height requirement between 1.57m (5’2”) and 1.91m (6’3”). Qualified pilots taller than 1.91m may apply, subject to a functionality check.
  • Demonstrates a good level of physical fitness.
  • Exhibits spoken and written English proficiency at ICAO level 6.
  • Holds a valid passport with a minimum of 12 months before the expiry date.

Pilots holding an EASA license who previously held a UK Part-FCL license should upload a copy of their previous UK license or proof of UK training in the application's supporting files section.

Important Notes:

  • Candidates unsuccessful at initial screening, video interview, capacity testing, or assessment center stages may reapply after 6 months from their most recent assessment date. Candidates unsuccessful at the SIM stage must wait 12 months before reapplying.

  • Successful candidates will enter a hold pool and receive a maximum of two job offers. Declining the second offer requires reapplying after 12 months and completing the entire selection process again.
