British Airways Direct Entry Pilot - 787 First Officer

As the flag carrier of the United Kingdom, British Airways embodies a legacy of connecting the nation to the world and vice versa. With over a century of pioneering spirit, stemming from the launch of the world's first international scheduled air service, the airline cherishes its heritage of originality and innovation, shared by its passengers, partners, and employees alike. A position at British Airways offers the opportunity for a fulfilling and ambitious career where every contribution, from ensuring passenger safety and comfort to maintaining operational excellence, is crucial.

Role Overview:

The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering a world-class flight experience for all passengers, ensuring the highest standards of safety and professionalism. This role offers daily challenges and opportunities for continuous improvement and growth within the dynamic environment of commercial aviation. As a pilot for British Airways, career paths are varied and flexible, with opportunities outside of flying, such as training and pilot recruitment, available. The airline values work-life balance, and annual bid processes allow pilots to pursue different fleets and command positions, aligned with their professional aspirations. In addition to a fulfilling career, British Airways offers a competitive rewards and benefits package.

  • Class 1 Medical Certificate: A valid Class 1 medical certificate is essential.
  • Height Requirements: Height must be between 1.57m (5'2") and 1.91m (6'3"). Pilots taller than 1.91m may apply but will undergo functionality checks to verify their ability to meet the seating requirements across all BA fleets.
  • Physical Fitness: A good level of physical fitness is required.
  • English Language Proficiency: Spoken and written English must meet ICAO level 6 standards.
  • Valid Passport: A valid passport with a minimum of 12 months before the expiry date is required.

Job offers will primarily be made for the Boeing 787 fleet. British Airways is committed to a long-term vision of a Boeing single fleet operation, where pilots operate the Boeing 777, 777X, and 787 aircraft. Transfers to other fleets will be made available via an internal system, based on seniority.

British Airways is an equal opportunities employer that values diversity. The airline does not discriminate based on race, religion, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. This job description is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the role and is not an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, and conditions associated with the position.

Please note that offers on the Boeing 777 may be made if successful candidates exceed the number of positions available for the 787.

Important Application Notes:

Candidates who are unsuccessful at any stage (screening, interview, testing or assessment) can reapply after 6 months. Those who are unsuccessful at the simulator assessment must wait 12 months before reapplying. Applicants can apply to one airline within the British Airways family at a time (British Airways, Euroflyer, or Cityflyer) and must wait until the specified re-apply period has elapsed, following an unsuccessful application.

Successful candidates will be placed in a hold pool and receive a maximum of 2 job offers. Declining a second job offer will mean removal from the hold pool and a requirement to reapply after 12 months.
