Plane Captain
Overview
The Plane Captain plays a critical role in supporting aviation flight operations by ensuring aircraft readiness and safety. This position involves comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and executing daily and turnaround inspections. The Plane Captain provides essential pre-operational inspections and fuels ground support equipment. Furthermore, the role includes offering technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to employees in classifications such as Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs duties and responsibilities equivalent to the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turnaround inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes required maintenance forms.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as required, adhering to established procedures.
- Launches and recovers aircraft safely and efficiently.
- Serves as the aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations.
- Tows aircraft and acts as the aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Secures aircraft by tying down and covering them according to established procedures.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required to team members.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Ensures strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Hazardous Waste management, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensures adherence to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations applicable to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensures the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Provides courteous and professional customer service to all stakeholders.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment when required.
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the work center.
- Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations is necessary.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government or company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language, following both verbal and written instructions.
- Must have thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Requires thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling techniques, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements of the aircraft.
- Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level. Must be able to push or pull weight up to seventy (70) pounds.
- Requires close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear within the normal range.
- Must successfully complete the training program and receive written certification as a Plane Captain. Re-qualification is required semi-annually.
- Must be qualified on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Must be available to work all assigned shifts and schedules, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with specific aircraft types including F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 is strongly preferred.
- Possession of specific licensing or certifications:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and Tool Control Program (TCP) Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensing for operating support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- May be required to handle hazardous materials in the performance of assigned duties.
- May require the use of a respirator.
Compensation & Benefits:
The hiring hourly range is $50.66. The specific hourly rate will be determined based on the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, considering internal equity and alignment with market data.
