Plane Captain
Overview
The Plane Captain is responsible for performing essential aircraft support activities, including handling, servicing, and required inspections. This role involves conducting daily and turn around inspections, providing pre-operational checks, fueling ground support equipment, and offering technical assistance and guidance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Performs the duties of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Executes daily and turn around inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes necessary maintenance forms.
- Conducts Aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as required by established procedures.
- Manages the launch and recovery of aircraft.
- Directs aircraft taxiing during launch and recovery operations.
- Tows aircraft and serves as aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Secures aircraft using tie-down and covering procedures.
- Provides required technical assistance, guidance, and instruction.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment as needed.
- Ensures strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adheres to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensures the safety, security, and preservation of government and company owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness of the work center.
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Requires a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Must be proficient in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, and capable of following verbal and written instructions.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Possesses thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.
- Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, reach above shoulder level, push or pull weight up to seventy (70) pounds.
- Requires close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear within the normal range.
- Must successfully complete a training program and obtain written certification as a Plane Captain, requiring semi-annual re-qualification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. US Citizenship is mandatory for obtaining a Secret Clearance.
- Required to be qualified on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Prior military personnel must provide a member 4 DD214 showing an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Must be available to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, or F-16 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Possession of licensing and certifications such as Hazardous Waste Communications Training, FOD and TCP Awareness Training, ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness, and Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Licensed on support equipment including tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart, and engine start unit.
- Ability to handle hazardous materials in the performance of duties.
- Demonstrated ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- May require the use of a respirator.
Compensation & Benefits
The hiring hourly range for this position is $50.66. The final hourly rate is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
