Role Summary: First Officer

The First Officer serves as a crucial member of the flight deck, primarily responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transport of passengers, mail, and freight, while contributing to a positive experience for all guests. This role demands unwavering professionalism, adherence to stringent aviation regulations, and a steadfast commitment to company policies. Key Responsibilities

A First Officer at Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines is expected to:

  • Perform as Second in Command in the transport of passengers, mail, freight, or for other commercial purposes.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Company Flight Procedures, and Company Policies on scheduled flights and routes to guarantee the highest level of flight safety.
  • Maintain a professional manner and demeanor at all times.
  • Operate Company aircraft diligently, adhering to established Qualification Standards and all Flight Manual operating procedures and policies.
  • Effectively communicate with all required agencies and personnel, following Company Communication Practices.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge commensurate with an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate holder, including all aspects of applicable FARs and the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM).

Required Qualifications

Candidates for the First Officer position must meet the following general and seniority list-specific requirements:

General Requirements for Both Seniority Lists:

  • Minimum of 1,500 hours of total documented flight time.
  • A current First Class FAA Medical Certificate.
  • Minimum of 500 hours of fixed-wing turbine time (airplane and powered lift combined).
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current passport with unlimited access in and out of the United States, valid for at least six months beyond the date of employment. Employees with non-U.S. passports will also need any appropriate travel documentation.
  • Ability to travel immediately and repeatedly to any domestic or international location served by Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • A valid Driver’s License issued by a U.S. state or territory.
  • Excellent judgment, proven leadership skills, demonstrated commandability, and maturity.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Minimum age of 23 years.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Specific Requirements for Alaska Airlines Seniority List:

  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument-Airplane.
  • All aeronautical experience requirements for an ATP, Airplane category rating, as set forth in 14 CFR §61.159.
  • Current ATP written examination.
  • Comfort with potential domiciles in Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; Anchorage, AK; Portland, OR; and San Francisco, CA.

Specific Requirements for Hawaiian Airlines Seniority List:

  • FAA ATP certified, Airplane Multiengine Land with English proficient endorsement required.
  • Comfort with potential domiciles in Seattle, WA; Honolulu, HI; and Cincinnati, OH.

Preferred Qualifications

Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

  • A four-year degree from an accredited university.
  • An FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate (for Alaska seniority list).
  • 500 hours of multi-engine airplane time.
  • Minimum of 50 hours of flight time within the last 12 months.
  • 500 hours of turbine Pilot in Command (PIC) time.
  • Extensive turbojet/turboprop experience in a complex flying environment.

Compensation & Benefits

First-Year Compensation Details:

  • Alaska Airlines Seniority List:
    • First-year hourly pay rate: $124.72 (per contract)
    • Monthly pay guarantee: 70 hours
    • Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 84 hours (short call)
  • Hawaiian Airlines Seniority List:
    • First-year hourly pay rate: $87.00 (per contract)
    • Monthly pay guarantee: 75 hours
    • Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 75 hours (short call)

Please note that Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Horizon Air pay and benefits can vary by company, location, number of regularly scheduled hours worked, length of employment, and employment status. This role pays per collective bargaining agreement.
