Role Summary
This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position. The Airplane Pilot is responsible for flying advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, on tactical and non-tactical missions. The incumbent utilizes advanced precision instrument flight techniques, adheres to strict flight parameters, and maintains comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems under normal and emergency conditions.
Key Responsibilities

Conducts pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and weight distribution.

Ensures safety by adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground units, and performing prescribed pre-flight/post-flight checks.

Maintains accurate flight logs, reports, and coordinates with maintenance personnel.

Serves as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).

May be rotated to perform administrative tasks in Training and Scheduling, Operations Plans, Safety programs, or Inspector General office functions.

Independently plans and performs work assignments in accordance with NGB, USAF, and gaining command directives.
Requirements and Qualifications
Conditions of Employment

National Guard membership is mandatory; must be eligible for membership in the Montana Air National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.

Must maintain military uniform standards and meet all USAF military pilot medical standards.

Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or capable of qualifying within six months of hire.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Position requires the ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Federal employment suitability via background investigation is required.
Education and Certification

Education:
Must possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Transcripts must be submitted with the application.

Certifications:
Must possess FAA certifications from an accredited civilian aviation program OR aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school. Certifications must be submitted with the application.

Training:
Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
Experience Requirements

General Experience:
A competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts.

Specialized Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience in civilian aviation, military aviation, or ANG/ARNG aviation support facilities. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in piloting specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, crew instruction, and operational safety programs.
