Training & Human Performance Coordinator

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and non-governmental aviation safety organization representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, is seeking an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator. This position is based at ALPA's Tysons (McLean), Virginia office.

As a vital member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator functions as the key staff contact for policy areas related to Training and Human Performance. This role provides essential expertise and support while coordinating activities concerning human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other assigned disciplines. The Coordinator serves as a crucial liaison between ALPA and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations within these fields. Responsibilities also encompass related activities involved in the development and harmonization of global regulatory standards. The Coordinator works collaboratively with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its associated groups, as well as other technical groups and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure. Travel is required, up to 20% of the time, though sporadic local and national travel could reach 25%.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or demonstrate an equivalent combination of human performance and training education and experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is required.
  • Establishing and maintaining professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community is essential, alongside a thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
  • Excellent organizational skills and practiced time management are also required.
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt seamlessly to changing demands is highly valued.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills is needed to communicate effectively with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
  • The position requires the ability to work independently, proactively identifying and responding to issues and problems.
  • On a rotational basis, the Coordinator will answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is desired. Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement.
  • Former employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or within the industry segment in a relevant capacity is considered extremely helpful.

Physical Demands:

The role requires the ability to constantly operate a computer/smartphone/tablet, maintain a stationary position regularly, and move about the office and local metropolitan area. It involves determining what others have said or written, conversing with others, and exchanging accurate information. Regular requirements include sitting, standing, bending, reaching, moving about the office, and traveling (locally, nationally, and internationally). Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, or moving items such as cases may be necessary. Occasionally lifting, raising, reaching, and retrieving items up to ten (10) pounds is required. While traveling, the ability to move, raise, reach, and retrieve luggage weighing up to 50 lbs. may be necessary, and assistance may not always be available.

Salary:

The projected annual salary range for this position is $96,027.00 – $137,179.00. Relocation and sponsorship are not provided.
