Supervisor, Pilot Ground School
Position Overview
American Airlines is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our Flight Division as a Supervisor of Pilot Ground School. This position is a key member of the Pilot Training Team, responsible for ensuring all non-aircraft specific training programs meet and exceed the rigorous standards set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and internal company policies. The ideal candidate will be a skilled leader with a passion for aviation education, dedicated to developing and delivering world-class training for our flight crews while fostering an environment of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages the comprehensive development and delivery of pilot ground school courses, ensuring full compliance with FAA regulations and company policies.
- Conducts regular evaluations of all curriculum, course materials, and instructor performance to maintain the highest standards of quality and effectiveness.
- Initiates and implements necessary changes to curriculum and course materials to reflect regulatory updates and industry best practices.
- Provides professional coaching, mentorship, and development to ground school instructors to enhance their performance and skills.
- Maintains personal proficiency in delivering all phases of ground school training to serve as a subject matter expert and leader.
- Ensures the consistent availability of all required training resources, including updated course materials and properly equipped classroom facilities.
Qualifications for Success
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience and training.
- A minimum of four (4) years of related job experience, including at least two (2) years of teaching experience within a flight operations department or a military equivalent.
- Prior professional experience working directly with flight crews or a military equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or management experience in a training environment.
- Direct experience with FAR Part 121 airline flight operations.
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- In-depth knowledge of Part 121 Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Demonstrated ability to effectively instruct, motivate, and develop employees.
- Excellent supervisory and leadership capabilities with a professional demeanor.
- Polished and professional presentation skills suitable for a variety of audiences.
- Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
