Position Summary:
ALPA seeks an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator to join its Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. This position serves as the primary staff focal point for the Training and Human Performance policy areas within the organization. The Coordinator provides essential expertise and support, coordinating activities related to human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other assigned duties. A key function involves serving as a liaison between ALPA and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations in these disciplines, contributing to the development and harmonization of regulatory standards globally. The role requires close collaboration with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), associated groups, other technical departments, and Master Executive Councils (MECs).
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the staff focal point and subject matter expert for Training and Human Performance policies.
- Provide expertise and support in human performance, pilot training, and human factors.
- Coordinate activities within designated policy areas.
- Act as a liaison between ALPA and relevant government, industry, trade, and professional organizations.
- Contribute to the development and harmonization of global regulatory standards.
- Work collaboratively with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), technical groups, and MECs.
- Answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line on a rotational basis, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, or an equivalent combination of human performance, training, education, and experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is required.
- Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community are necessary.
- A thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) is essential.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated time management abilities are necessary.
- The ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is extremely important.
- Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills is required to communicate effectively with Association members and Officers, government and industry representatives and stakeholders, and staff.
- The ability to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems is crucial.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is desired. Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement.
- Former employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or industry segment in a relevant capacity is extremely helpful.
Travel:
This position may require sporadic travel, both local and national, potentially up to 20% or occasionally as much as 25% of the time.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The role requires constantly operating a computer/smartphone/tablet. It regularly requires maintaining a stationary position; moving about the office and the local metropolitan area; determining what others have said or written; and conversing with others and exchanging accurate information. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the office and travel (locally, nationally, and internationally). Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling or moving items up to ten (10) pounds may be required in the office. While on travel, the incumbent could be responsible for moving, raising, reaching, and/or retrieving luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs. Assistance may not always be available. Compensation and Benefits:
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The projected annual salary range is $96,027.00 – $137,179.00. ALPA offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits, including:
