Airline Captain
Job Purpose
The Airline Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned flights. This individual will adhere to the Airline Operational Manual and all relevant civil aviation authority regulations. The Captain ensures the ultimate safety, security, and efficiency of all operated flights. They lead and support the flight and cabin crew, manage emergencies and unforeseen situations effectively, and maintain control of the aircraft to guarantee a successful flight and uphold a positive corporate image.
Key Responsibilities
- Flight Operations: Safely pilots the assigned aircraft between destinations, adhering to schedules and approved flight plans. The Captain bears ultimate responsibility for the aircraft during flight, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensures all flights are conducted in strict accordance with the Airline's Operations Manual and applicable regulations. Implements, monitors, and maintains procedures for safe and smooth aircraft operation.
- Crew Management: Guarantees the timely attendance, professional appearance, fitness, and legal compliance of themselves and the Flight Crew. Conducts pre-flight briefings to ensure all crew members understand flight details and procedures.
- Pre-Flight Coordination: Collaborates with co-pilots and the Dispatch Team prior to each flight to ensure the crew is prepared and informed. This includes sharing information regarding aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather conditions, fuel levels, weight distribution, and role assignments.
- Fuel Efficiency: Optimizes fuel consumption during flight while adhering to safety constraints as outlined in the Airline's Operations Manual.
- Safety & Security: Oversees the execution of required safety, security, fuel, and transit checks by the Flight and Cabin Crew before, during, and after each flight. Directs the crew's response to any safety or security irregularities and escalates issues as necessary.
- Aircraft Maintenance Liaison: Collaborates with Maintenance Engineers to confirm aircraft technical status and airworthiness. Seeks support from Maintenance Control Center and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul organizations to address concerns and identify technical issues. Implements immediate rectifications or corrective measures as needed.
- Documentation: Ensures all required documents and technical logs are completed accurately and in compliance with Airline and civil aviation authority regulations. This includes the technical logbook, journey book, boarding sheets, and reports.
- Manual Adherence: Guarantees the Airline Operations Manual is distributed, accounted for, current, understood, and followed by all Flight Crew.
- Regulatory Awareness: Stays informed on the legal requirements of relevant regulatory bodies, including the civil aviation authority, Airbus Company, and other applicable organizations.
- Additional Responsibilities: Performs additional ground-based tasks such as Safety Officer or Security Officer, as assigned by the line manager and following the Airline's Operations Manual.
Qualifications
- Licensing: Valid Egyptian ATPL License is mandatory, with a minimum of 800 hours Pilot-in-Command experience on type.
- Technical & Medical Requirements: Must successfully pass the technical/psychometric assessment and the Medical Fitness check-up for Pilots, as per Airline and civil aviation authority standards.
- Training:
- Safety and emergency response training is essential (formal qualification preferred).
- Basic airport, security procedures, and regulations training is advantageous.
- Crew Resources Management Training is beneficial.
- Familiarity with IATA principles & standards relating to security is a plus.
- Skills:
- Proficient in aircraft systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations.
- English Proficiency level 4 or above.
Work Experience
- Flight Experience: Minimum of 4,000 flight hours, with preference given to Airbus 320 experience and a minimum of 800 hours Pilot-in-Command on type.
- Airline Experience: Experience with a low-cost airline is highly desirable.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Familiarity with handling security or safety-related roles as required by Airline and civil aviation regulations.
- Exposure to QA/Safety/Security/Audit procedures and practices within Flight Operations.
- Ability to implement policies, procedures, and manuals according to approved standards and regulations.
