Role Overview
Advanced Air, LLC is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Second in Command (SIC) Pilot for its King Air 350 fleet, based in Hawthorne, California. This critical role demands exceptional multitasking abilities, proficiency in making complex, high-level decisions, and adeptness in performing diverse aviation-related tasks. The SIC will play a pivotal role in supporting Advanced Air's Essential Air Service communities and on-demand charter operations. The primary objective is to ensure a world-class travel experience for all Advanced Air passengers, upholding the rigorous standards of flight operations and fostering positive interactions with charter customers, aircraft owners, and airline passengers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) throughout all flight phases in strict adherence to company operating policies and procedures.
- Conducts thorough visual pre-flight (walk-around) inspections before each flight.
- Performs detailed visual post-flight (walk-around) inspections after each flight.
- Assumes ultimate responsibility for the safety of passengers, crew, cargo, and the aircraft in the event of PIC incapacitation or inability to perform duties.
- Holds primary operational responsibility for executing all customer service aspects of each flight leg as stipulated in the policies and procedures manual.
- Reviews and briefs the PIC comprehensively on all customer service-related items, including but not limited to passenger pick-up and drop-off, refueling, customs, private hangar coordination, and catering arrangements.
- Ensures strict compliance with all Federal Aviation Regulations, Company Operations Manual, Operations Specifications, Standard Operating Procedures, and Company Policies and Procedures.
- Completes all required initial new-hire ground and flight training curriculum segments, with an emphasis on aircraft-specific type training and mastery of all required events and maneuvers.
- Maintains accurate flight and duty records, assesses eligibility for subsequent flight assignments, and promptly reports any aircraft maintenance discrepancies to the Captain and in accordance with operating policy.
- Actively participates in safety and quality assurance systems by identifying, reporting, and mitigating hazards and quality issues, providing timely input to management, and utilizing system processes to address concerns.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the PIC, Chief Pilot, or higher authority.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1200 hours total flight time, with 500 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
- Possesses a Commercial Airplane Multi-Engine Land rating with at least 50 hours of multi-engine fixed-wing experience.
- Accumulated a minimum of 500 hours of cross-country flight time.
- Logged at least 100 hours of night flight time.
- Possesses at least 75 hours of instrument flight time, with 50 hours performed in actual flight conditions.
- CFI, CFII, and MEI certificates are preferred but not mandatory.
- Must successfully pass an oral and written examination administered by an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman or Administrator representative within the preceding 12 calendar months, as per FAR 135.293(a).
- Must successfully complete a competency check administered in the type of airplane within the preceding 12 calendar months by an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman or an FAA Inspector, as required by FAR 135.293(b).
- Must have completed the 6-month IFR proficiency check administered by an FAA Inspector or an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman, in accordance with FAR 135.297.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in en route, arrival, and departure procedures by completing an en route check (FAR 135.299) with an FAA Inspector or an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations.
- Strong understanding of aircraft maintenance procedures.
- Demonstrated customer/client focus and exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to effectively multitask in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to pass FAA drug and alcohol screening, background checks, and submit to random drug testing when required.
- Maintain a current medical certificate as stipulated by the company.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Capability to manipulate, push, pull, and lift heavy objects exceeding 150 lbs.
- Physical ability to climb onto and off of an airplane wing for pre-flight, post-flight, or during emergency exit procedures.
- Possesses the necessary digital dexterity for detailed aircraft pre-flight and post-flight inspections.
- Ability to execute flights of up to 4.5 hours, with a total flight time of up to 10 hours per day within a 14-hour duty period.
- Must possess a current U.S. Passport with at least six months of validity remaining throughout the employment period.

- Potential exposure to constant or intermittent sounds of a pitch or level significant enough to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss while performing operations on the airfield ramp.
- Work environment characteristics include exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations (cold and heat) and operation at altitudes higher than sea level.
- All pilots will undergo training in a crew environment emphasizing checklist usage and crew standardization for normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures.
What to Expect
- Second in Command Pilots will receive a salary of $55,000.00 annually.
- A training contract is required for 12 months from the date of initial training completion.
- Flight crews will operate on a mixed schedule of "Days ON" and "Days OFF," providing approximately 10 days off per month.
- Flight crews average 15 flying days per month and typically spend 8 to 12 nights away from base, subject to schedule demands.
- Pilots bid for days off based on seniority, 14 days in advance, which facilitates a schedule offering 10 meaningful "hard days off" per month. The calendar year comprises 13 schedule periods.
- On "Days ON," flight crews are expected to be available for Advanced Air operations. Days without assigned flying will include an "On Call" period, requiring flight crews to be within approximately two hours of the airport and fit to fly.
- On "Days OFF," pilots are not expected to be available for Advanced Air duties.
