The Opportunity
AAR is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual for a full-time, Home of Record (HOR) based, worldwide deployable Fixed Wing (FW) Instructor Pilot (IP) position. The successful candidate will primarily serve as a DHC-8 Instructor Pilot and Pilot in Command, with responsibilities extending to Second in Command duties when required. This role is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of crew member training, evaluation, and standardization within the program.
The Instructor Pilot is responsible for comprehensive crew member training and evaluations, overseeing standardization administration, managing flight records, maintaining AWIS entries, and managing all relevant publications and references. The role involves continuous monitoring of flight instruction, including aircraft transition training, annual proficiency reviews, and flight evaluations, to maintain operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains aircraft currency and proficiency strictly in accordance with government and U.S. Department of State (DoS) International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL/A) guidance.
- Deploys routinely Outside the Continental U.S. (OCONUS) and occasionally Within the Continental U.S. (CONUS) to support worldwide operations. Candidates should anticipate 180 days or more of Temporary Duty (TDY) annually, often to potentially remote and/or austere environments.
- Serves as a Pilot, Pilot-in-Command, and Instructor Pilot, conducting academic and hands-on training and evaluations. This includes meticulously maintaining crewmember records such as Individual Aircrew Training Folders (IATFs), AWIS entries, flight records, weight and balance documentation, and risk assessments.
- Ensures strict compliance with Standardization Directives, Aircrew Training Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Aircrew Training Program (ATP) requirements. Develops tailored training solutions to effectively support specific organizational missions.
- Monitors and evaluates crewmember performance during mission planning and flight operations to ensure adherence to standardization protocols and established policies.
- Stays current with all additions and changes to applicable procedures and documentation, ensuring up-to-date knowledge and application.
- Delegates functions as appropriate while retaining overall responsibility for assigned tasks and personnel.
- Maintains professional standards, including ensuring adequate rest and presenting a proper appearance in all operational contexts.
- Performs other aviation-related duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 1,500 total fixed-wing flight hours, including at least 500 hours of turbine engine time.
- Possession of an FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman’s Certificate, Airplane, Multi-Engine Land (MEL).
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII), Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) or military equivalent.
- Possession of an FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- A current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
- A DHC-8 type rating is required.
- Ability to complete DHC-8 Readiness Level (RL) training within 90 days of integration into the program.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for 180 days or more annually; schedule may vary monthly based on operational needs.
- A minimum of 300 hours of instructor pilot or check pilot time.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Clearance.
- Spanish Level L-2 (Listening), R-2 (Reading) proficiency is required for assignments within Latin American (LATAM) Programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Documented Functional Check Pilot (FCP) or Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) training.
- Possession of an FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
- Prior experience as a military standardization pilot and/or pilot support on the DoS INL/A program.
- Prior experience as a military standardization pilot or civilian equivalent.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher.
- An active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Security Clearance.
