Experimental Flight Test Pilot
Robinson Helicopter Company, a leading manufacturer of civil rotorcraft with a 50-year legacy of providing affordable and versatile helicopters, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Experimental Flight Test Pilot to contribute to the development and certification of its renowned aircraft. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic and innovative engineering-focused organization at the forefront of vertical flight technology. Based in Torrance, CA, this full-time, day shift position offers a competitive salary range of $180,000 to $275,000 annually.
Responsibilities:
The Experimental Flight Test Pilot will serve as Pilot in Command (PIC) for various flight test programs, encompassing developmental, research, and certification activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, executing, analyzing, and reporting on ground and flight tests of experimental rotorcraft and/or systems.
- Developing and implementing comprehensive flight test plans, test cards, and detailed flight and test reports.
- Leading and/or participating in ground and flight tests, functioning as pilot, crew member, or Test Conductor.
- Collaborating with diverse stakeholders to formulate effective test strategies, define test configurations, and manage test programs, ensuring safety, efficiency, and efficacy.
- Adhering to established departmental processes and standard operating procedures to maintain the highest standards of safety, consistency, and efficiency in flight testing.
- Contributing creative solutions and innovations to enhance both product performance and organizational efficiency.
- Participating in multi-disciplinary design reviews and actively assisting in the resolution of cross-functional technical challenges.
- Contributing significantly to the Flight Test Safety Program, including active participation in flight test plan reviews, test flights, pre- and post-flight briefings, and test readiness reviews.
- Interfacing with regulatory personnel (FAA, EASA, TCCA, etc.) to effectively manage the flight test aspects of aircraft certification.
- Maintaining accurate records and conducting regular audits to ensure consistent compliance with all processes and procedures.
- Maintaining currency and proficiency in piloting diverse aircraft types.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduation from a SETP-recognized test pilot school or equivalent substantial experience in developmental and certification flight test programs.
- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience as an experimental rotary-wing test pilot.
- FAA Commercial Helicopter Pilot Certificate.
- FAA Second Class Medical Certificate.
- Minimum 1,000 hours of Helicopter PIC time.
- Significant experience in managing risk and safety within the flight test environment.
- Proven experience in developmental and type certification flight test programs for fixed or rotary-wing aircraft.
- Excellent academic record.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel as needed.
- Demonstrated self-starter capabilities requiring minimal supervision, with proven project management, organizational, and risk management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and relevant engineering software tools.
Desired:
- Extensive experience piloting multiple makes and models of rotorcraft.
- DER and/or ODA experience.
- Master's degree in engineering.
- Experience in human-to-vehicle interface design, testing, and evaluation.
- FAA Helicopter Instructor Pilot certificate and relevant experience.
- Prior experience with advanced flight controls.
