Production Flight Test Pilot

Cirrus Aircraft seeks a highly skilled and experienced Production Flight Test Pilot to contribute to their mission of delivering exceptional aviation experiences. The ideal candidate will pilot new production aircraft through a comprehensive series of tests to evaluate airworthiness, performance, handling characteristics, and systems operation. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring each aircraft meets Cirrus and FAA requirements.

Job Summary:

The Production Flight Test Pilot will conduct flight tests to assess aircraft performance, ensuring compliance with type design, FAA, and Cirrus Design quality standards. They will gather and document data to assist in troubleshooting any anomalies.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform thorough preflight inspections, weight and balance calculations, and performance assessments to verify aircraft readiness.
  • Evaluate weather conditions and aircraft status, making sound go/no-go decisions within Cirrus' established safety protocols.
  • Execute a series of flight tests to evaluate aircraft systems, performance, handling, and stability, ensuring adherence to Type Design, FAA regulations, and Cirrus quality criteria.
  • Monitor and record data from aircraft instruments and equipment during flight tests to evaluate performance.
  • Document all relevant flight data, including any deviations from established standards.
  • Ensure diligent compliance with all required paperwork pertaining to the position.
  • Adhere strictly to Cirrus' safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Function effectively both independently and as part of a team. Weekend work and flexible shifts may be required depending on production needs.
  • Provide guidance and training to other test pilots as necessary.
  • Participate in occasional overnight and international travel.
  • Be comfortable flying non-pressurized aircraft at high altitudes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of 1000 hours of Pilot-in-Command flight time.
  • Four years of experience in production flight testing or maintenance flight testing. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in diverse high-performance aircraft is preferred; experience in aerobatics, tail-wheel, multi-engine, or military flight is a plus.
  • A background in aviation maintenance or avionics is highly desirable.
  • Possession of an FAA Commercial or ATP pilot’s license with airplane single-engine and instrument ratings. A multi-engine rating is preferred.
  • Valid First or Second Class Medical certification.
  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) or Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) rating is highly desirable.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport.
