Position Summary
As a Senior Test Pilot, the incumbent will provide comprehensive flight test technical support for experimental and developmental aircraft and payload systems. The role requires sound judgment to plan and execute program goals safely and effectively while working within a small, agile design-to-flight team. Responsibilities include serving as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Second in Command (SIC), supporting ground tests as a Test Conductor or Flight Test Engineer, preparing system test plans, and participating in engineering design reviews. The candidate will also act as a control room mission director or designated safety official for FAA Part 450 commercial space missions.
Essential Responsibilities

Serve as PIC/SIC for experimental transport category carrier aircraft (including B747-400) and chase/training aircraft.

Author flight test plans, test cards, flight reports, and final test reports.

Lead and participate in system design reviews and ground/flight test events.

Develop test strategies, plans, and procedures for aircraft and components.

Participate in control room operations as a Mission Director or training officer.

Maintain and update the Pilot Operating Handbook and operational guidance, including normal and emergency procedures.

Maintain flying currency, proficiency, and instrument currency across multiple aircraft types.

Operate effectively in fast-paced, high-stress environments.
Required Qualifications

Graduate of an SETP-recognized full course test pilot school or possess equivalent developmental flight test program experience.

Minimum 1,200 hours total PIC flight time, including at least 500 hours in turbine aircraft.

Three years of test pilot experience on developmental flight test programs.

FAA Commercial Airplane Multi-Engine Land pilot certificate (no centerline thrust restriction).

FAA Second Class medical certificate.

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a similar technical field.

Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations for experimental aircraft certification and operations.

United States Citizenship with the ability to acquire and maintain a US security clearance.

Strong self-direction, time management, and communication skills.

Ability to work irregular hours and travel periodically.
Highly Desired Qualifications

FAA Airline Transport Rating (ATP) or additional type ratings.

747-400 type rating.

FAA high altitude endorsement or equivalent military training.

Experience in formation/chase, heavy multi-engine turbine aircraft, and external stores carriage/separation flight tests.

Six years of relevant experience on developmental flight test programs.

Master’s Degree in engineering or related technical field.

Experience with advanced flight controls, autonomous aircraft, experimental/modified aircraft, and configuration control.

Familiarity with government flight test organizations, ranges, and procedures.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range:
$175,500–$230,500 per year, plus up to 15% annual bonus. Base salary is determined on a case-by-case basis considering location, education, and interview assessment.
