Overview

NASA Research / Test Pilot

Serve as an Aerospace Engineer/Research Pilot in NASA Langley Research Center (Hampton, VA) with the Research Services Directorate. This involves piloting of aircraft (and/or Uninhabited Aerial Systems(UASs)) used in research, development, and test programs; planning/evaluating test parameters; performing flight and/or ground simulations of advanced missions and aircraft; participating with project engineers and scientists responsible for development, design, testing, evaluation, and reporting on new aircraft or aircraft systems. The responsibilities require occasional to frequent travel, sometimes international flight operations. The missions support aeronautics, airborne science and space technology research objectives.

Grade: GS-14 to 15, three openings, Direct hire authority.

Salary $134,876 – $183,500 per year

Qualifications: Technical degree requirement, pilot certificate of commercial/instrument (or higher) or military qualification/instrument rating, 1500 hours of PIC time, with at least 500 in jet aircraft with more than 3000 lbs thrust per engine.

Desired Experience in: multiple aircraft qualifications; Graduation from a recognized Test Pilot School (USNTPS, USAFTPS, ETPS, EPNER, or NTPS (long course)); Aviation safety officer experience; international experience; and hold an airline transport pilot (ATP) certificate; type ratings in G-III, G-IV or B-777 aircraft.
