Position Overview

Southern Company is seeking an exemplary Senior Captain to join the professional flight department. The selected Captain will serve as a pilot, demonstrating superior customer service while executing safe, efficient, and effective aerial transportation missions. These critical flights directly support the strategic business objectives and executive initiatives of Southern Company and its subsidiary organizations.

This position is based at Dekalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) in Atlanta, Georgia. Applicants must currently reside, or be willing to relocate, within 1.5 hours of the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport domicile.

Dual-Rated Preference

While this position is open to all qualified pilots meeting the minimum criteria, preference may be extended to dual-rated pilots. If dual-rated, the successful applicant will be expected to serve as a designated Captain (either fixed-wing or rotary-wing), with additional operational responsibilities as a First Officer on the alternate aircraft platform. Captain assignments will be determined based upon the applicant's relevant experience.

Core Responsibilities and Professional Expectations

The Senior Captain is responsible for upholding the highest standards of operational excellence and corporate representation, including:

  • Performing Pilot-In-Command (PIC) and/or Second-In-Command (SIC) duties strictly in accordance with the General Operations Manual (GOM) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Operating as a highly motivated, self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision, while serving as a cooperative and effective team player.
  • Exhibiting superior interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence necessary for managing dynamic environments and high-profile interactions.
  • Applying strong analytical reasoning and critical thinking skills to solve complex operational challenges in rapidly evolving environments.
  • Accepting and managing a flexible and dynamic schedule, which routinely includes early mornings, late nights, weekend flights, and required overnight travel.
  • Willingness to accept occasional temporary assignments at other company domiciles as needed.
  • Maintaining excellent communication skills and interacting appropriately and professionally with executive-level customers.
  • Actively participating in and supporting the Safety Management System (SMS) and adherence to all ISBAO Standards.
  • Personally and professionally modeling all aspects of the Southern Company culture: Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior Performance.
  • Executing additional duties as assigned by the Chief Pilot.

Minimum Qualifications and Flight Time Requirements

Formal Education

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, is required.
  • A College Degree is highly desirable.

Certificates and Ratings

  • First-Class FAA Medical Certificate (Must be able to acquire and maintain).
  • Fixed Wing: Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with Multi-Engine Rating required.
  • Rotor Wing: Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating required; ATP is preferred.
