Southern California Edison (SCE) invites applications for an accomplished and visionary Chief Pilot to lead its critical rotorcraft flight operations. This pivotal role is at the forefront of the Clean Energy Revolution, overseeing all facets of flight operations, comprehensive pilot training, and strategic contractor pilot management. The Chief Pilot is instrumental in ensuring the utmost safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance for rotorcraft operations under FAR Parts 91 and 133, with a distinct emphasis on essential utility long-line missions and external-load operations. Responsibilities
The Chief Pilot will be entrusted with a broad range of strategic and operational duties, including:
- Directing and optimizing resource allocation and budget levels to achieve strategic objectives and operational imperatives.
- Managing and overseeing all third-party contract aircraft operators, including comprehensive scheduling and project completion tracking.
- Providing strategic leadership to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective aviation services in robust support of company-wide operations.
- Developing and implementing comprehensive strategies, policies, programs, and procedures for integrating aviation services across SCE and its diverse operations.
- Designing and executing key performance expectations and goals, ensuring stringent alignment with company objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Cultivating and maintaining robust relationships with key stakeholders and third-party vendors to remain informed of evolving industry methodology standards.
- Developing and implementing innovative strategies for long-term planning, comprehensive budgeting, and advanced aviation work methods.
- Researching, recommending, and implementing strategies that effectively meet current and anticipate future business requirements.
- Upholding the highest standards of conduct and integrity in protecting the Company's physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and in responsibly accessing and managing sensitive data including private customer information, proprietary insights, and confidential medical records.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate the following essential qualifications:
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience supervising a team of direct reports and/or leading complex project management initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in professional flight operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will also possess one or more of the following highly valued qualifications:
- Possession of an FAA Commercial Rotorcraft Certificate.
- A minimum of 3,000 hours of total flight time, including at least 1,500 hours in helicopters.
- Extensive experience operating under FAR Part 91 and Part 133 regulations.
- Significant long-line utility experience, totaling a minimum of 500 hours.
- A current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
- Proven leadership experience within demanding aviation operations environments.
- A strong, comprehensive understanding of aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Proficiency in conducting pre-operation planning, detailed area surveys, and expert coordination with flight crew and ground personnel.
- Demonstrated expertise in load rigging, secure attachment procedures, and a deep understanding of rotorcraft performance capabilities and limitations.
- Adept execution of flight maneuvers involving external loads, encompassing precise hovering, directional control, and accurate load placement.
- Possession of an FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate – Rotorcraft.
- Prior experience as a Chief Pilot or Director of Operations in a utility or commercial rotorcraft operation.
- Previous experience supporting electric utility or critical infrastructure missions.
- Familiarity with diverse rotorcraft fleet types such as Bell 429, Airbus H125, or similar models.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Aeronautical Science, or a closely related field.
- Experience utilizing advanced flight operations software and digital flight tracking systems.
