Position Summary

Grant Aviation seeks a highly experienced and dedicated Chief Pilot to lead its flight operations from Anchorage, AK. The Chief Pilot plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, regulatory compliance, and efficiency of all flight operations. This critical leadership position involves comprehensive management of pilot personnel, including training, scheduling, and records. The Chief Pilot also serves as the primary liaison with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and is instrumental in fostering a robust safety culture across the organization. This role further supports key administrative, payroll, and budgeting functions within the Flight Operations department, contributing significantly to the company's operational excellence.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based at Grant Aviation's headquarters, located at the south end of Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, AK. Grant Aviation values in-person work arrangements, requiring the Chief Pilot to report to headquarters a minimum of two days per week when not traveling. Frequent travel to the company's outlying bases across Alaska is an integral part of this role, ensuring direct oversight and support for flight operations in diverse regional environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads, supervises, and develops the entire pilot group, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversees the recruitment, hiring, retention, and strategic assignment of pilots, including the appointment of Pilots in Command (PIC) and Lead Pilots.
  • Ensures all pilots maintain current qualifications, receive appropriate training, and strictly adhere to FAA regulations and company operational policies.
  • Collaborates effectively with Standards and Training Managers to develop, review, and maintain all operational manuals and essential documentation.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date crew records, performs monthly audits, and ensures the currency of aircraft manual libraries.
  • Investigates all pilot-related incidents, accidents, and fatigue reports thoroughly, implementing and monitoring corrective actions to enhance safety.
  • Establishes appropriate duty hours and staffing levels to meet operational schedules efficiently while strictly adhering to regulatory compliance.
  • Acts as the primary liaison between Grant Aviation and the FAA Principal Operations Inspector (POI) concerning all pilot personnel matters.
  • Processes and approves pilot flight histories, crew logs, time records, and payroll, and determines pilot compensation, coordinating personnel changes with HR/Payroll departments.
  • Assists in the strategic budgeting process for the Flight Operations department, covering training, salaries, and equipment.
  • Fulfills the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Operations in their absence, and delegates responsibilities to the Assistant Chief Pilot as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the Flight Operations department.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications as stipulated in 14 CFR Part 119.69 and 14 CFR Part 119.71(c) for a Chief Pilot position in a Part 119 certificated air carrier.
