Position Overview: Chief Pilot
CommuteAir, a prominent United Airlines partner operating a fleet of Embraer 145 XR aircraft, is seeking an experienced and qualified Chief Pilot. This role is pivotal in overseeing flight crew records, ensuring compliance with flight time limitations, and maintaining pilot qualifications in accordance with 14 CFR Part 119.65(d)(3). The Chief Pilot is responsible for upholding the highest standards of safety and operational excellence across the organization.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Oversee flight crew qualifications, training procedures, and scheduling to ensure full compliance with 14 CFR Part 121.

Process operational additions, changes, and deviations using Safety Management System (SMS) and Safety Risk Management (SRM) methods.

Maintain FAA-approved master records for crewmembers, aircraft, and company flight operations.

Manage and submit revisions for all required company and FAA-approved manuals.

Direct and supervise flight operations personnel, ensuring daily communication with the Director of Operations.

Maintain currency as a line captain and serve in a full-time capacity, subject to 14 CFR 121 rest requirements.

Monitor crewmember proficiency through check ride reviews and coordinate remedial training as required.

Manage the selection, upgrading, and testing of flight personnel.

Act as or appoint approved check pilots to conduct required FAA/company proficiency and instrument checks.

Collaborate with leadership to develop company policies, safety culture, and organizational training initiatives.

Conduct disciplinary meetings and maintain documentation regarding attendance and conduct.
General Requirements and Qualifications

Must meet qualification standards as defined in 14 CFR Part 119.65(d) and 14 CFR Part 119.67(b).

Comprehensive understanding of aviation safety standards, 14 CFR Chapter 1 (FARs), Operations Specifications, and airworthiness standards.

Proficiency in administrative procedures, file management, and office software/systems.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding personnel records and employment matters.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Demonstrated ability to read, speak, and understand the English language.

Legal authorization to work in the United States.

The Chief Pilot must actively contribute to the company’s safety culture by complying with all safety practices, utilizing the Safety Management System (SMS), and maintaining familiarity with Dangerous Goods Transportation requirements.
