Position Overview

SouthState is seeking a professional Chief Pilot to manage flight operations and fulfill responsibilities associated with aircraft dry lease agreements and related professional pilot service contracts. This role reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer of SCBT Financial Corporation or his designee. The successful candidate will uphold the company's commitment to safety, integrity, and excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all SCBT policies, as well as the terms of the Dry Lease between SCBT and the aircraft owner (Lessor).
  • Provide safe, efficient, and professional pilot services for management, staff, employees, guests, and invitees.
  • Exercise operational control and determine the airworthiness of leased aircraft.
  • Oversee flight scheduling, preflight planning, ground handling, fueling, and maintenance coordination.
  • Ensure all flight operations remain in full compliance with FAA and TSA regulations, specifically adhering to Part 91 of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Act as the primary interface with the Lessor regarding operational and maintenance issues.
  • Manage fuel procurement with a focus on operational economy without compromising safety.
  • Coordinate effectively with passengers and supervisors regarding schedule adjustments due to weather, maintenance, or air traffic.
  • Establish aircraft scheduling, manage flight time and duty limits, and assist in the retention of contract co-pilots.
  • Document flight operations via a manifest system and prepare expense and operational cost reports as required.
  • Maintain all necessary FAA Pilot Certificates, FAA Medical Certificates, and required insurance-mandated training at personal expense.
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance, ensuring all concerns regarding potential risks are communicated appropriately.

Required Qualifications

  • Possession of a current FAA Pilot Certificate.
  • Possession of a current FAA Medical Certificate.
  • Completion of all training required by the FAA and the aircraft insurer.
