Chief Pilot (Part 135)

A strategic and experienced aviation leader is required to serve as Chief Pilot for a Part 135 operation based in California. This pivotal leadership role is responsible for maintaining flight crew standards, overseeing training programs, ensuring operational safety, and managing regulatory compliance across a mixed fleet that includes Embraer 135, Legacy 600, and Gulfstream IV-SP aircraft.

Position Overview

The Chief Pilot serves as the primary deputy to the Director of Operations (DO) and acts as the key liaison with the FAA. The successful candidate must be prepared to assume DO responsibilities if required and will provide 24/7 operational oversight. This role is designed for an aviation professional who prioritizes safety, operational precision, and a culture of accountability.

Candidate Requirements

  • Licensing: Valid FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) License.
  • Type Rating: Current or previous type rating on Gulfstream IV or equivalent large-cabin aircraft (e.g., Bombardier Challenger 604, Falcon 900EX, or Gulfstream G450).
  • Flight Experience:
    • Minimum of 5,000 hours total flight time.
    • Minimum of 3,000 hours in turbojet aircraft.
    • Minimum of 2,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
    • Minimum of 3 years PIC experience under Part 121 or Part 135 within the last 6 years.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Must meet 14 CFR 119.71(c) requirements for Chief Pilot or be eligible for a deviation.
  • Professional Background: Extensive Part 135 operational experience with a proven track record in leadership, team management, and Air Operator Certificate (AOC) administration.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong background in FAA liaison duties and regulatory compliance.
  • Legal & Travel:
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
    • Valid passport with unrestricted international travel capability.
    • Eligibility for TSA background checks (CHRC) and compliance with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: USD 225,000 to USD 275,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Additional Incentives: Stock options package and a per diem allowance of USD 25 to USD 85 per flying day.
