Job Profile

Chief Pilot position is available with Red Wing Aviation in Bay City, Wisconsin. The Chief Pilot instills, promotes and maintains a “just” company culture allowing for open and honest communication to ensure that staff feel safe and appreciated. Seeking an individual that possess excellent verbal and written skills, exceptional interpersonal skills and an understanding of the General Operations Manual, FAA regulations, operations specifications, and flight manuals. In addition to office/leadership responsibilities, the Chief Pilot will also complete some scheduled flying duties. This position reports The Director of Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for daily management and performance monitoring for all pilots on the XL & Ultra fleet pilots
  • Manages the crew according to the Organizational Structure on hiring, disciplinary matters and possible dismissals
  • Instills, promotes and maintains a “just” company culture allowing for open and honest communication to ensure that staff feel safe and appreciated.
  • Sets and maintains operational and technical standards and procedures for both fleets
  • Designates Captains
  • Sets up all necessary strategies and goals to perform his/her tasks
  • Implements all necessary decisions within the scope of duties for a safe and secure XL & Ultra fleet flight operation
  • Ensures all flight crew are licensed and rated as appropriate to their position and that such licenses and ratings are valid and current
  • Performs or authorizes qualified and for the applicable aircraft type rated pilots to perform Line Checks (299). Records must be filed for these checks
  • Defines necessary directives for flight crew members and monitors performance
  • Keeps management informed about all relevant facts of day to day operations
  • Responsible for the notification to the DO , the AM and the SM of any irregularity regarding flight operations or flight crew affecting his fleet
  • Makes reports whenever he deems necessary in the interest of safety and cost optimization
  • Submits any changes of procedures to the DO for approval
  • Checks all irregularities during flight operations – as long as reported to him- for their root cause
  • Constantly verifies the availability and the completeness of documents and forms to be carried on board of his fleet
  • Verifies that the content of the AFM is up to date and correct according to the latest aircraft configuration
  • Responsible for any changes to the operational checklist and consults with the DOM on changes that affect the operation
  • Maintains oversight for data on iPads and informing crew of the info updated
  • Highlights changes to the operating procedures, such as amendments to the operations manuals, to all crew in a timely manner
  • Responsible for the availability of all documentation required for the crewmembers to familiarize themselves with the laws, regulations and company procedures pertinent to the performance of their duties
  • Sets up abbreviated checklists and provides all information required to verify correctness and completeness of abbreviated checklists
  • Works in close cooperation with the Director of Training for the management of fleet specific training tasks
    • Supervision of all instructors/examiners of the respective fleet
    • Maintaining continuous communication with the fleet’s instructors/examiners/check airmen (including the conduct of conference calls)
    • Preparation of fleet specific training programs in accordance with the standards specified by the Director of Training; Ensuring the promotion of operational standardization
  • Ensures a safe and secure operation of company aircraft, including cabin operations, in coordination with the Safety Manager
  • Closely cooperates with the Safety Manager to provide solutions to setup the necessary preventive actions in order to avoid incidents and take steps to avoid incidents in the future
  • Regularly attends safety meetings as defined by the safety manager
  • Timely communicates accidents/incidents and occurrences he becomes aware of to the Fleets Safety Officers
  • Informs the Safety manager of changes which might affect safety and for which a policy/procedure Change is required
  • Acts on actions raised on Centrik Safety module within due date, if not possible he will request a relevant motivated extension. If he disagrees on action raised, he rejects the actions providing explanation
  • Promotes corporate culture for safety through training and promotion activities

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Current ATP rating
  • Current unrestricted passport and first class medical
  • 1,500 hours total time with 500 Pilot in Command
  • No accidents/incidents/enforcement actions in the last 5 years.
  • Minimum of two years compliance and regulatory experience in a Part 135/121 environment preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience in aviation, preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems, preferred
  • Comply with the requirements to act as a chief pilot for a certificate holder under part 119.69(a)

Specific skills:

  • Good knowledge of the General Operations Manual, FAA regulations, operations specifications, flight manuals, and other pertinent information relating to duties.
  • Excellent written, verbal skills, and interpersonal skills, including dispute resolution and objective discipline.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software platforms.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • In addition to RWA pre-employment requirements, complete background check and FAA/DOT Drug/Alcohol program requirements
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Maintain a current passport with no restrictions
