Position Summary

The Aviation Operations Manager will exercise comprehensive operational control over the day-to-day aviation operations of assigned air ambulance programs within the United States. This pivotal role ensures that all personnel under their purview strictly adhere to PHI, FAA, and individual program standards and requirements, upholding the company's paramount commitment to safety and operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

The Aviation Operations Manager holds ultimate responsibility for the overall aviation operational control, management, and safety of assigned bases, overseeing crucial areas including:

  • Assisting the Director of Operations and Chief Pilot in exercising operational control of aircraft and resources.
  • Managing and coordinating the execution of strategic goals and objectives for assigned PHI Health flight programs.
  • Leading and facilitating effective operational changes to enhance quality and efficiency across operations.
  • Coordinating efforts between bases to establish consistent processes and a cohesive flow of information.
  • Proactively problem-solving and following up on operational issues through collaborative engagement with relevant personnel.
  • Ensuring optimal aircraft and pilot availability in accordance with regional and company requirements.
  • Supervising the successful startup of new aviation bases, including the provision of qualified pilots and comprehensive safety training/orientation.
  • Collaborating closely with the Maintenance Manager to guarantee the availability of airworthy aircraft.
  • Ensuring strict pilot compliance with established PHI, FAA, OSHA, and customer practices, regulations, and procedures.
  • Coordinating and resolving customer and internal PHI issues efficiently.
  • Monitoring the performance of pilots assigned to their area of responsibility.
  • Partnering with Program Directors, Aircraft Base Managers (AMBS), and customers to resolve pilot administrative challenges.
  • Actively supporting and practicing the company’s "Destination Zero" safety initiative.
  • Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer for all management and PHI business activities.
  • Reporting to the Director of Operations for all aviation operational control activities.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a blend of operational expertise and leadership acumen, demonstrating the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Holds a Helicopter Pilot Certificate with Commercial and Instrument Ratings.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of operational management or supervisory experience, preferably within the health or aviation industry.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard work hours, adapting to operational needs.
  • Demonstrated above-average written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-placement drug screening and background check.
