Position Overview
The Aviation Operations Manager will exercise comprehensive operational control over the day-to-day aviation operations of assigned air ambulance programs within the United States. This pivotal role ensures that all personnel under their purview strictly adhere to PHI Health, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and individual program standards and requirements. The Manager will play a crucial role in orchestrating seamless operations, supporting PHI Health's mission to keep its advanced fleet soaring and patients safe, ultimately making a profound difference in lives.
Key Responsibilities
The Aviation Operations Manager holds ultimate responsibility for the overall aviation operational control, management, and safety of assigned bases. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting the Director of Operations and Chief Pilot in exercising operational control of aircraft and resources at designated bases.
- Managing and coordinating the execution of goals and objectives for assigned PHI Health flight program(s), ensuring alignment with the mission and goals of the PHI Health Group.
- Leading and facilitating effective operational changes aimed at improving quality and/or efficiency.
- Coordinating efforts between bases to achieve consistent processes and ensure cohesive information flow, both internally and externally.
- Taking responsibility for problem-solving and follow-up on operational issues through collaborative engagement with appropriate personnel.
- Ensuring optimal aircraft and pilot availability in accordance with regional and company requirements.
- Supervising the successful startup of new aviation bases, securing qualified pilots, and ensuring comprehensive safety training and orientation are provided.
- Coordinating closely with the Maintenance Manager to guarantee the continuous availability of airworthy aircraft.
- Ensuring pilot compliance with established PHI Health, FAA, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and customer practices, regulations, and procedures.
- Coordinating with customers and internal teams to resolve PHI Health-related operational issues.
- Monitoring the performance of pilots assigned to their area of responsibility.
- Collaborating with Program Directors, Account Managers, Business Services (AMBS), and Customers to resolve pilot administrative problems.
- Actively supporting and practicing the company’s "Destination Zero" safety initiative.
- Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer for management and PHI business activities, and to the Director of Operations for all aviation operational control activities.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a blend of professional experience, aviation expertise, and essential skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hold a Commercial and Instrument Rating as a Helicopter Pilot.
- Five years of operational management or supervisory experience, preferably within the Health or Aviation industry.
- Willingness to travel as required by operational needs.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours to support continuous operations.
- Above-average written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-placement drug screening and background check.
