Role Summary

A National Airlines First Officer, serving as the Second-in-Command (SIC), holds a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the airline's Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A330 aircraft. Reporting to the Chief Pilot and functionally responsible to the Pilot in Command (PIC), the First Officer diligently assists the Captain in strict adherence to all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company operational policies. This position is integral to fostering an environment of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous mentorship within flight operations, serving as a key step in a pilot's career progression towards Captain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains thorough familiarity with and strictly adheres to all instructions and procedures outlined in applicable company operational manuals.
  • Ensures complete compliance with all regulations issued by the FAA, relevant foreign aviation authorities, and company policies governing flight operations.
  • Complies with all clearances and directives issued by controlling agencies, including Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Ground Control.
  • Actively participates in ongoing training for potential upgrade to Captain, diligently observing and learning standard in-flight operating procedures and techniques from the Pilot in Command.
  • Verifies the adequate stocking and availability of necessary forms and flight deck supplies for the crew before each flight.
  • Performs the duties of a Relief Officer when assigned to crews of three or more pilots.
  • Fulfills additional responsibilities as detailed in National Airlines’ General Operations Manual.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Possesses a current and unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with an airplane category multi-engine class rating and an English proficiency endorsement.
  • Holds a current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Possesses an FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
  • Maintains a valid U.S. passport without international travel restrictions.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • A minimum of 2,500 hours total flight time is required; candidates with less than 2,500 hours may be considered based on specific flying experience and aircraft types flown.
  • A minimum of 500 hours of turbine time.
  • A minimum of 1,000 hours of fixed-wing time OR 500 hours with a Part 121 carrier.
  • Minimum age of 23 years, with awareness of FAA Part 121 mandatory retirement regulations.
  • An ATP certificate issued with a 'CIRCLE APCH-VMC Only' limitation is acceptable.
  • Ability to successfully complete a 10-year background check, including a Pilot Records Check, DOT Pre-Employment Drug Test, and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current qualification and operational experience in Part 121, 135, or 91 environments.

Additional Information

Supervisory Responsibility

This position holds no supervisory duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to endure prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Capable of lifting up to 15 pounds occasionally.
