Head of Training/Chief Pilot (CBTA Deployment Lead & Instructor Focal)
A leading aviation organization seeks a highly experienced Head of Training/Chief Pilot to serve as a CBTA Deployment Lead & Instructor Focal on a contract basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well-established organization renowned for providing class-leading aviation support.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting customer airlines with the implementation of Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) & Evidence Based Training (EBT), a safety-enhancing program. This contract position provides additional support and capacity within the client's global CBTA Deployment team. The CBTA Deployment team is dedicated to the development of capable and resilient commercial aviation professionals, providing training products trusted worldwide, backed by extensive knowledge and research, to increase learning efficacy and enhance aviation safety.
Location: Gatwick Airport or Manchester Airport; hybrid or virtual arrangements will be considered.
Employment Type: Fixed-Term Contract (ASAP start until December 2025, with likely extension or permanent employment opportunities).
Responsibilities:
- Lead a CBTA Deployment team of subject matter experts at customer airlines to determine their needs in transitioning to the client's CBTA/EBT program.
- Review pilot training needs, leveraging prior instructor experience, to determine appropriate competency-based training content, objectives, and design in line with the CBTA/EBT program.
- Oversee activities in the airline's development, delivery, and evaluation of competency-based training & assessment (CBTA).
- Evaluate current airline training philosophies and support the airline during their transition to a CBTA/EBT program.
- Gather data and provide detailed reports to support the airline's proposed CBTA development activities.
- Evaluate the accuracy and quality of airline training delivery, present proposals to customers, and consult with others regarding the airline's CBTA program.
Required Experience:
- Possession of, or previous experience holding, a commercial pilot license, preferably with prior Boeing aircraft experience. This is a non-flying role.
- Ideally, a minimum of 3 years of management experience in an airline Flight Operations or Training Department.
- Excellent understanding of pilot training program regulatory requirements.
- Thorough understanding of the principles of CBTA and EBT programs.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Demonstrable experience in leading a team remotely and independently.
- Understanding of the principles of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and their applicability to pilot training.
- Extensive pilot instructional background (TRI/TRE) of greater than 3 years.
- Proven track record of successful delivery of complex projects across various areas, ideally within the commercial airline training sector.
- Understanding of project and program management principles and practices.
- Ex-military pilots are welcome.
